These are criminals doing criminal things why would a lack of quotas stop them. They hire by party membership not BEE and give tenders to cronies, families and friends. Some of their friends and cronies aren't BEE.

Yes but these members wouldn't be in those positions if not for quotas.

It was a clean sweep for the Western Cape at a national municipal awards ceremony, with four municipalities in the province taking top honours.

At the National Good Governance Awards in Johannesburg on Thursday, the West Coast District Municipality was crowned the best-run municipality, boasting 14 consecutive clean audits and flawless capital project spending.

The Breede Valley municipality has been impressed with a clean audit for 2023/24, marking 10 consecutive years of spotless audits and fully funded budgets.

The Cape Winelands district municipality secured 11 consecutive clean audits and strong budget management.

The awards were held at Gallagher Estate as part of the annual Local Government Indaba.

It brings together municipalities, government officials, and industry experts to recognise excellence in local governance and service delivery.

The Western Cape’s dominance continued at the Municipal Performance Awards, hosted by the SA Property Owners Association, Ratings Afrika and the Banking Association of SA.

It also took place on Thursday.

Swartland and Saldanha Bay shared first place nationally, followed by Swellendam in second and Hessequa in third.

The City of Cape Town was ranked best metro.

It all started when they changed local government laws in 1994 enabling councillors to earn a salary. How many hours a day does a councillor work?

Before 1994 councillors job was on a volunteer free basis which could be done 1 hour on a Friday..

I was reading that treasury website listing the financial state of various municipalities. The western has a healthy financial position but seems very poor at putting money to use. They have too much in the bank like a bad company sitting on cash like apple used to and maybe still do.

Luthuli House is a little emptier this weekend after the Sheriff of the Court reportedly raided the ANC’s headquarters.

Among the equipment reportedly seized last week were 100 desks, 200 chairs, 20 computers, 50 filing cabinets, nine couches, nine fridges, nine microwaves, and coffee tables, reported City Press.

The equipment will be sold at auction if the political parties do not settle a R85.5 million debt to Ezulweni Investments.

And if they wanted to replace any of it, their bank accounts have also reportedly been frozen.

Ezulweni Investments said they were willing to bring a liquidation application against the ANC if the debt is not recovered.

Before 1994, the only salaried members of a municipality were the Town Clerk, who ran the town, the Town Engineer and the municipal staff. The Mayor was unpaid and received expenses only, a nice car for official use, and a nice chain of office.

Their political affiliation was unimportant, as the ratepayers paid them to deliver services only. There was no infighting for political power. They were personally responsible to the ratepayers and could be taken to task at the monthly meeting for not performing.

He looked very lost at the reveal party, it doesn't look like there is much to his name besides the TV show, but let's see how his TV popularity translate into votes, but generally celebrities have never done well in politics, the EFF already tried it.
