Which means Shoprite has more stores in Kayelithsa than in Soshanguve, despite Soshanguve being 3 times bigger in area with twice the population.

Not really. The gap in provincial GDP between the WC and Gauteng has been substantially reduced over the past decade or so, despite WC having far fewer residents than Gauteng.
