The bad news is that the restitution of land rights act only goes back to 1913. This means that the people who booted them off their land will be seen as the ones with a valid claim.

I think this lot have a bigger problem than just the 1913 cutoff date.

Proving they are direct descendants could be more tricky, and then also proving that all the other people in the area (and surrounds of SA) who don't support their little crusade are NOT direct descendants either.
 
At a societal level, how do you agree what the rules are if they are not written down such that everyone can see the same version?
Simple actually. Orally then through reinforcements afterwards. Do you know how their hierarchy was structured?
