Do South African cell operators (Vodacom in particular) alter or emblazen their logos and own software on Android phones (HTC Desire HD)?

If so, is it possible to remove it?

Not sure about desire hd but my galaxy s from vodacom has stupid startup and shutdown animations.

Sent from my GT-I9000 using MyBroadband Android App

Yup, easy to remove.

Also, Gingerbread for the Galaxy S has been out for weeks already, Vodacom is taking it's time to brand and bloat it though.

MTN does not seem to modify the Android OS.
Nor does it seem to add in logos nor animations nor anything.

My Moto Milestone is unblemished and I've even gone to standard Froyo (2.2) from the Motorola site.

The HTC Wildfire that a friend has (also MTN) is similarly unmolested.
Cannot vouch for the entire behaviour based on two samples but it seems that MTN does not muck about with Android OS phones...

Yup to Desire HD? Do you use the gold card method to remove it?

Any PHYSICAL branding?

Check out the XDA Developers forum for debranding instructions, my Galaxy has no physical branding at all, save for Google, though my old X1 was Vodafone branded.

a friend of mine has a vodacom galaxy s. when he first got it, it had the vodacom branding on startup / shutdown.

he then took it ot samsung at vodaworld and they flashed unbranded FroYo for him. :)

My MTN HTC Desire HD has NO indication that it comes from MTN

No MTN branding anywhere to be seen.

MTN doesn't brand any of their phones. I always get mine from them

my motorola mb525 is vodacom branded how do i remove this animation, dont like them

Vodacom branded or Vodafone branded?

Normally it involves rooting and flashing original rom, might find it in XDA forums

Don't be too sure. My wife's BB9700 has a sickening yellow startup screen that remains regardless of the source of software loaded. My Desire is MTN-twaddle-free at least.
