The government has expressed shock at the violent attacks in the Somali capital of Mogadishu at the weekend.

"South Africa condemns these abhorrent acts of terror, for which there can be no justification," international relations department spokesman Clayson Monyela said in a statement on Tuesday.

"It is deeply despairing that the attacks occurred just as Somalia is beginning to show clear signs of a return to normalcy following the 22-year long conflict."

Two attacks took place in the city on Sunday.

In the first, more than 34 people were killed and 58 were injured when a group of nine people posing as government officials detonated explosive vests while an other opened gunfire, killing 29, at a magistrate's court.

The second targeted a Turkish aid convoy, killing five people.

The attacks came a week after international warnings about imminent attacks by the extremist group, Al-Shabaab, in different parts of Somalia.

"The government and people of South Africa offer sincere condolences to the government and people of Somalia, as well as to the families and loved ones of the deceased," said Monyela.

Shocked that Somalia went tits up again? I'll be shocked if that country ever turns out stable.

Also, after dabbling in the CAR, I think government should shut its mouth when commenting on foreign incidents of a dodgy nature.

Nee hoor :(

Why do you say that? All loss of life is tragic. No matter where it happens.

True... but I think i'm actually numb to all this violence now. I heard the reports and was just Meh.... another terror attack.

S h i t going down in merica feels like s h i t going down in every other war zone. They are all at war, bombs happen.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

"South Africa condemns these abhorrent acts of terror, for which there can be no justification,"

So, is the ANC Government saying that there can never be any justification for terror attacks?

But the same ANC committed acts of terror against ordinary SA citizens prior to 1990 :wtf:

Wait, are you expecting consistency or honest from the ANC? lol.... :D

58 killed? Even though I'm gonna say "not to be crass", its still going to come out crass - but that's how you build a bomb.

Jeez man - that was no small thing then.

Too many tribal factions that just can't sit together over there.
Yet again, innocents and aid workers attacked. :o

The Boston bomber should've waited for the tail-end of the runners to come through for maximum damage.

Depends.
Was he there on the road and remote detonating them?
Or did they have timers on them? ie, with him having thought about how many runners would come through at that time based on previous years' results.

If they'd had the latter - you've gotta give him some kind of credit (yeah I know its wrong) for having an explosion go off first at the end of the line - then having people run back into the second - props.
I know of at least another 2 that didn't go off - cops did a controlled explosion on one and then found another.

Anyway - don't wanna derail this thread too much.

I'm happy that this thread got to page two.

lets help get it page 3

Speak up against it - specifically speak up against the group responsible for the attack on innocent people - if it is really of any concern to you.
You seem more worried at the level of coverage - than t!he killings themselves !
