Sa Sucks closing down on Friday.

This is a natural consequence, which I recognised immediately in our own family.

Some are resigned to the fact that the country is going down the tubes (TIA), others have left or are planning to and some have gone quite right wing. The rest - well they've been shot, killed or both.

but there is plenty of great and decent white people. the poor don't affect me directly because they have their own lives, and i'm sorry for them sure. but when i go out to a party with my black friends, and a white guy walks past and calls them a k****r for a no reason it starts affecting me, so when i find websites like this and find that they ENCOURAGE it i get terribly angry.

start changing the few racists you can and leave the hard work to the government, coz no matter how much we post comments or whine about this country, we can only change ourselves and how we affect other people. how hard is it to be a good person?

I think Zasucks' biggest pitfall was the fact that they did not maintain objectivity. Their mission statement was to expose the nasty truths about the new SA but the problem is that they allowed emotion to cloud their credibility. I think that's the fairest way to put it without having to drag in the 'r' word. Uhuru Guru, in his radio interview with Kieno Kammies, said that he allowed the site to act with a dual function by providing a platform for users to vent their frustrations. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion but in order to preserve credibility, moderation and pure objectivity has to be applied. In this way opposing parties can only argue the facts and not the sentiment/motivation of the blogger.

I wonder how many people are opposed to the outright racism on the site (openly declared by the bloggers on a regular basis, there's no denying it) or to the fact that the site painted SA in a negative light? My guess is that had zasucks been more objective, we would have a better idea.

Anyway, to all who watched last night's Carte Blanche, they ran an insert on Rudolph Zinn's findings on crime in SA. Funny enough, zasucks ran this article some months back. Carte Blanche however, ran a far more objective take on the fact that Zinn's findings suggest we should all be good, submissive victims; that we should not make eye contact with our attackers; that we should assume the submissibe "sleep" position; that we should point out all valuables in a calm, quiet fashion; etc. etc. etc...

And we wonder why people in this country are so angry and hateful.

The replacement site seems a lot better. I was quite moved by the YouTube video of an armed robbery at a supermarket.

that is all that it would have taken, but what else can you call people who put up pictures of dead and dying black children? how is showing a kid dying venting frustration? i think he got off far too lightly, managing to convince people it was satire when most of them hadn't seen pictures like that.

they are spreading hate speech. again you're comparing what he did to his website to the government, which is what i'm trying to show you. the government isn't perfect and racist free. neither was his blog. it doesn't excuse the other.

that is a different topic, and we've discussed it enough. let's argue that the government DOES encourage racism, and the whole of south africa agrees and we're happy witht hat decision. now that we all agree, does it excuse this guy to be a racist too?
