SA surpasses 4Mbps average broadband speed

I find it hard to believe that the average connection is 4mb. Anybody else on 1mb?
 
Definitely not true.

Case in point: Even though I'm shaped and my international download speed is way below 4mbps, I get full max speed from speedtest.net (10mbps) during the day.

Rather strange? Yep, ISPs are bias on that IP and will unthrottle speed to those servers.

Not gonna name the ISP here, but check yours and see for yourself.

Another point I noticed is that people with absurd high broadband speeds will test more often than people with lower speeds (1mbps)
 
People on low speed accounts are less likely to use speedtest.net so the article title is misleading
 
Probably the few people with access to LTE, the new 20/40Mbps VDSL and fibre lines have inflated the average speeds.
 
I know that whenever I get a new smartphone I'll run a Speedtest on it just to see how well 3G works in my area and I get some pretty good numbers, and then I go right back to my 4Mbps ADSL connection for daily use. There's enough people with smartphones in this country to really shift that average around, especially with HSUPAs upload.
 
well how many 20/40 mabps test have the ppl done in the aria's its avadable

that that that boosted it
just like a class test

10 ppl do the test

8 of them gets 4
and the other to get 9 and 10

that 9 and 10 boost up the avg score wile still the most have the lower score in this case internet speed

but atlest we'r moveing up :/

I just upgraded my DSL from 1Mb to 4Mb.

Heres hoping for decent speeds. Esp watching HD TV.
 
What kind of crappy journalism is this anyway? Who approves these articles?
 
I think they should report on the max and average speeds per category. Not sure whether they have the categories i.e. 1Mbps, 4Mbps etc..but if they have that should make for interesting reading as the figures should be less skewed.

Still won't trust them but think that will be a better approach than just this 'wow speeds in SA are now XXXX'

Doesn't net them the same amount of traffic when they crap out less sensationalist articles tho.
