I post this not as an attempt to troll, but in response to many posts that state that why does soccer not have to have a fully representative squad.

So there you have forumites, almost 20% of the team is made up of white players, almost twice the demographics of the country. Only demograhic missing in the team are Indians/Asians.

Any thoughts?

Thanx for pointing that out.

1 question though.

Most of those players play for clubs abroad right ?
They still get included into the National team.

Why is it that this rule only applies to Rugby when it comes to players playing for clubs abroad are not allowed to play for the National squad

Just a question of Rugby being hard headed and not wanting to move with the times. Every sporting code has had to suffer with players moving off to greener pastures.

Remmember that Rugby is still a small sport and needs time to mature. It only became professional in 1995.

I answered your question !!! Rugby still in its teething stages. Its has to go thru its natural evolution phase.

Think you're missing my question.

Rugby has forced quotas. With the forced quotas now also the rule that if a player plays for a club abroad they cannot be selected for the national squad again.

The same doesn't apply for Soccer.

I fail to see what this has to do with the age of the sport

IIRC SA was/is not the only Rugby playing nation with that rule?

As for quotas they are used to get some representivity in the teams that take to the field representing SA and ALL its citizens.

@Sox63
Do you watch Rugby ?

Go pick 20 random blacks and ask them whether they watch soccer, rugby or both. Pick 20 random white people and ask the same.

Blacks tend enjoy soccer more, whites tend to enjoy rugby more. Club representation will prove this too. Let the blacks have their soccer and let the whites enjoy their rugby. Don't interfere and fsk it all up guavamint!

Quotas are crap. Look at the athletics, whites who had better times than the blacks where left at home for world champs to send a representative team, WTF!!!

Yes, staunch Free State Cheeters supporter, what does that have do with anything?

Ok given

Can you tell me when they won the Currie Cup/which years.
Who their current coach is, their current captain, How many Sprinboks came from the Free State since inception. Which is the "harvest" school from which the Free State get their players from ?

This might take you a while searching it on google :D
