Uhm, wait a second. Didn't government and the taxpayer ALREADY DO THAT by DONATING ALL THE COPPER INFRASTRUCTURE THEY USE?

What competition? They're pretty much all charging the same prices for the same services. Collusion?

Telkom said its prices were not exceptionally high compared to other comparable countries and that it wasn't making "super" profits.

Then why are we as consumers paying so much and getting so little in return?

Telkom admitted that its ADSL prices are higher than those charged in other comparable countries.

Then reduce the prices to the levels in comparable countries - though I would like to know what countries they consider as being comparable.

Super-profits are most certainly about R500m imo and they made 4.5 Billion Rand in profit last year but it's not "super".

No - "super profit" is where one company makes more money than the country's entire tax roll.
Now - lets see - profit of Teklom + Voda + CellC + MTN + DiData = ????
Country's tax roll = ????
