SA traffic jams make world list

Traffic congestion sucks... What makes it particularly bad in SA is the utter lack of public transport (there is, but its a gamble with your life).

Factors to consider why traffic is so bad in SA:
1) Too many trucks on the highways. Again, this is caused by politics- Transnet is a totally useless piece of crap
2) Too many people rubberneck, even for a harmless stationary object on the side of the road
3) Many moving violations on the highway that can't drive faster than 30km/h (vehicles that should have been crushed 10 years ago and are hanging together with pieces of wire, and have a vise grip for a steering)
4) Too many a-holes trying to show their big brass balls and exercise their idiot mind's right to be first at the offramp.
5) Bikers causing people to get a fright and slow down, sometimes with an accident as a result
6) People constantly changing lanes because they somehow think they will move faster if they do.
7) Traffic lights not working on offramps.
8) METRO POLICE trying to solicit bribes (aka pulling people off) for absolute nonsense, near offramps
9) People trying to jump the offramp queue by pushing in, in front

LoL, eToll is one of the known effective ways of reducing traffic demand to lower congestion especially when the impact of increasing capacity is minimal. It is actually integral to the sustainability of the Gautrain project in terms of the public-private partnership contract.

The problem is that etolling should be planned in conjunction with additional public transportation. That is not happening at the moment.:cry:

Where in the hell do you stay? Peak/Off peak from Table View to City Center is 40mins, give or take 5.



Having to pay R2 bank fees, for being able to get to City and Back everyday for [-]R24[/-] R 14.80 is worth it.

blouberg - you have to get to bayside centre. (and strangely enough, the trip on the R27 to bayside is the longest part of the travel by car, might as well drive once you get over that robot)

its not about the cost of the bank fee's - its bank fees on a travel card, I haven't experienced that in any other countries.

I have lodged a complaint with the City of Cape town, all I got was time wasted filling in a form they emailed me, then nothing - tried twice, haven't bothered since
 
Trip from Pretoria East to Sandton 30 minutes to 45 minutes spend on the 45km to very near Marlboro or Grayston, then 30 minutes spent on the few hundred meters to get from M1 onto Katherine...

Quite surprised England didn't make it onto that list. Even with a fantastic public transport like Oxfordshire it often took me 2 sometimes 3 hours to get home from Blackbird Leys to Berkshire and that's a trip of about 30km's :D

Depends on the industry, but I agree companies need to change. Those that don't will probably not be around for very long.
