TV comeback in South Africa

The latest data from the Marketing Research Foundation's (MRF) Marketing All Product Survey (MAPS) has revealed a recovery in terrestrial TV viewership numbers, which it largely attributes to the suspension of load-shedding.

It shows that 60% of respondents had watched terrestrial TV within seven days of taking the survey in the first quarter of 2024, up 54% in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Are they funded by SABC/eMedia?

SOS: Support Public Broadcasting Coalition national coordinator Uyanda Siyotula recently said the SABC lost around 40% of its viewers due to the switch-off.
Silly me, I thought is was because they cancelled 7de Laan and because SABC content sucks and Claudi Motsoeneng corruption.

“Our condition is simply clear. When you move all these people across, and we’re happy to switch off. Then it is worth our while as a business that relies on that market,” said eMedia CEO Khalik Sheriff
WTF. If "all these people" are important to eMedia, then eMedia should pay for "all these people" DTTV decoders.
Don't make taxpayers fund eMedia - a commercial entity.

“We are free-to-air. These are the people who loyally look at what we do. They are our customers. They are the people that make up our numbers.”
No one is stopping eMedia/SABC from broadcasting "free-to-air".
Just don't expect taxpayers to fund the equipment to receive the signal.
They "your customers" - then you pay to keep them.

Switching of analog TV, will force motivate the "indigent" population to get their rear ends into gear, and get the required decoders, the government must just see that they are available for their voter base, when they make the effort to get one.

Desperately trying to legitimize the coming mo0ney grab that the ANC scum are planning.

eMedia has quite a few tricks up its sleeve. Besides the attempt to force Multichoice to continue to fund their extra channels as well as I'm sure you know, they're also still avoiding streaming of their eMovies and some other channels on their eVod platform, not even making eNCA news available there - suspect that's to try get more people to buy into their OpenView satellite option.

Good business strategies or abusive manipulation? You decide

Say what you want, but the afrikaans shows are what has kept sabc afloat in terms of quality in my opinion. Even the afrikaans news i thought was very professional. Just my opinion
