Hi

I just read that
Tourist Visa Extensions - Maximum Stay

Tourist visa extensions can only be applied for once. In layman’s terms the visa you are initially granted is simply extended by an additional period of time. If you are granted this additional stay you cannot then apply for another extension – it is a once off exercise and you must leave South Africa by this date.

My friend has already had her tourist visa extended once, is there any other way to get another extension?

I've heard something about leaving the border and getting a stamp (for a 90 day extension) on the way back, is this true?

Any other methods to get a SA tourist visa extension?

And no, my friend is not another Samantha Lewthwaite. :erm:

It very much depends who you get at the border. Most home affairs people at the borders don't know their own rules.

My 3 month old baby was declared an 'illegal' even though both his parents had valid work permits in SA, he was born in SA and his accompanying permit had already been applied for within 2 months of being born.

At the Botswana border, they rejected his birth certificate, and told me the UK embassy had to issue him a birth certificate. No amount of explaining that he was born in morningside hospital, and so UK had nothing to do with it would satisfy their silly asses.

At OR Tambo, the lady could not count 3 months from 29th September, when he entered the country and so declared him an illegal also, although it was 19th of December when we were leaving the country, 10 days short of 3 months. She kept insisting he was meant to have left the country by 29th November. Idiot!

It took 20 months from permit application for him to get him to be finally legal in the country.

Moral of the story, the rules are there but no one knows them, especially home affairs

Your only way is to get a Dr. to see her and give her a follow up appointment in 6 months then you can extend the permit on medical grounds

I agree with Imran. There are rules and nobody working at home affairs knows them. They make up their own interpretations as they go along. Visa extensions, work permits and the worst is Permanent resident permits.

This always works unless the person is dead
