SA was warned against eNatis

The problems around eNatis stem from them taking the big bang approach in implementing it. Instead of logically implementing a big project like this in stages, some genius decided that it was a better idea to change the whole system, across the country in one weekend.

Anyone who has ever worked with implementing big IT projects knows that this is a reciepe for disaster. Hence where we stand now..

No official response to the AG report has been received as yet.

Again, silence.

Silence is golden - those ANC honchos are probably taking that literally and expecting to get rich(er).

The DG's investigation, conducted at the request of the department, examined 24 aspects of eNatis and found 19 of them to be "high risk".

This is totally unacceptabe. The department had qualms about implementation so they requested an investigation. When the investigation did not give the results they wanted, they went ahead anyway??

This looks like it gives an opportunity to sue the socks off the government if you lost money due this debacle.

But even after an auditor general's report that outlined his shock findings about eNatis was handed to the Department of Transport (DoT), they went ahead and implemented eNatis - strictly against his advice.
All too familiar when it comes to Government.
No accountability whatsoever.
Heads should be rolling at this point in time and The Minister and all the people involved should be sued in their private capacity for stuffing up.
President Mbeki should be firing left, right and centre.

Once again the taxpayer is footing the Bill.
But then again SARS is the only Department that is run properly so the extra taxes collected will pay for this mess. All our hard earned money down the drain.
Just not sure how the Motor Industry is going to recoup it's losses?

I would love to know - who were friends with who or family, when that tender went out.

Shabby Sheik's name was mentioned at one point.

You joking.
The Sheik Family has their fingers in the pie again.
Goodness me.

It would be interesting to hear from the other Companies that tendered and see their side of the story.

It was mentioned becuase Face Technologies had won the tender to manufacture our card drivers licenses, and Nkobi holdings was part of that consortium.

They are not involved in this particular circus:D

Yeah, that sounds right - although the same Minister was involved on both tenders? May just be a case of "no evidence, YET".

:p

Ok. Ta. :)

Isn't it amazing. We build computers that can go faster and programs to work on these computers to make our lives easier, yet the system is slower than before.

Makes me think of a Librarians Index System.
Those paper systems are still fool proof and still reliable when the computer system fails.

hehe - I still prefer those index cards. Not only is it faster than the terminals, the cards have less, uhm, "foreign matter" on them.
:p

I think generally most people don't understand that part, especially guys in the finance department.

I am still sitting with a new(2nd hand) car that is not in my name and I can not get it into my name :(

I see the local Romans pizza has rolled out a computerised POS system and now it takes a few seconds longer to place the order and also they dont give you a little slip with your number on it and you have to remember it for when they call it...
