Despite the extensive marketing, this still doesnt interest me much. I dont think its going as well for them with tickets sales, i saw now they offering 2 free tickets if you buy 4.
The 4 for 6 has been offered from the start, not a new deal.

Time for a proper thread.

Btw. I did create a superbru for those who want to play:

Sunrisers wild card. Excellent, I really rate Jordan Hermann.
Jordan went and broke his toe during the Warriors v Lions match on Wednesday. Hope he mends in time for the SA20.

Stubbs, another Warriors/Sunrisers teammate managed his maiden 100 at the same match.

Caleb Seleka had to pull out due to injury. Super Kings have replaced him with Neil Brand , strange decision. Brand very good fc and 50 over player but not t20, doesn't always even make the titans starting 11.

True, T20 batting average of 14 as well and he is a batter.

I would have forgiven them if he was a youngster. Up and coming youngsters can benefit from just being in the dugout and getting the exposure even if he does not play but he is 26. They could have given the chance to one of the more talented U19s.

Saw that. Was a brute of a delivery from magala even thought it was a no ball.

Watched the stubbs innings , was awesome. Love watching him when in full flow.

I think interest will pick up once the thing gets going. All it needs is one or two pieces of magic near the start to really get the momentum going.

Skilled panel of match officials announced for inaugural Betway SA20

Current ICC Umpire of the Year, Marais Erasmus, leads experienced group

Wednesday, 28 December: Betway SA20 has announced the 17 match officials for the inaugural competition set to begin on 10 January 2023 in Cape Town.

It is an experienced group of umpires, with a total of 12 set to officiate across the 33 matches. There will also be five match referees spread across the six iconic venues around South Africa.

The list is headlined by current ICC Umpire of the Year, Marais Erasmus, who officiated in the 2022 and 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup finals, as well as the epic 2019 ICC Men’s World Cup final at Lord’s.

Erasmus will be joined by fellow ICC International Panel of Umpires Shaun George, Adrian Holdstock, Bongani Jele and Allahudien Paleker. Holdstock also recently officiated at the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Betway SA20 League Commissioner, Graeme Smith said: “Umpires are a vital part of the game and we are thrilled to have some of the best officials in South Africa and the World. The League is a platform for our umpires to officiate on a global stage and for them to step up against some high-quality cricket from the world’s best players.”

Every match of the League will use a full component of DRS keeping the margin for error at a minimum.

The tournament opener set for Tuesday, 10 January is between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals at Newlands.

Paleker, who made his Test debut earlier this year said: “I’m excited to be a part of the SA20 match officials. It’s set to be one of the biggest Leagues in the world featuring some of the best T20 players in the world, it’s a great opportunity to stand in it.”

The semi-finals are scheduled for Wednesday, 8 February and Thursday, 9 February at the Wanderers and Centurion respectively. The final is set for the Wanderers on Saturday, 11 February.

AB de Villiers: Betway SA20 comes at a good time for SA cricket

Former Proteas star says League will give youngsters exposure

Thursday, 29 December:
Proteas legend, AB de Villiers, believes the Betway SA20 comes at the perfect time for South African cricket.

The inaugural League, featuring six newly-constructed teams, will launch on Tuesday, 10 January at Newlands with the opening local derby between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals setting up an explosive start to South African cricket’s new-kid-on-the-block.

De Villiers, who has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception in 2008, says the SA20 is just the boost the game requires in South Africa.

“I think the Betway SA20 comes at a really good time for South African cricket. We have seen the amazing things that these leagues have done to cricket in particular nations,” De Villiers said.

“To give our youngsters this base and the foundation to get exposure at the highest level against the best players in the world is what it's all about.”

Among the youngsters that De Villiers will be keeping a close eye on is MI Cape Town’s young batting sensation, Dewald Brevis.

The 19-year-old has been a revelation since bursting on the scene during the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup earlier this year when he shattered Shikhar Dhawan’s tournament record for the most runs.

He has since carried this form into the IPL, Caribbean Premier League and most notably in Cricket SA’s T20 Challenge competition when he blasted 162 off just 57 balls.

De Villiers believes Brevis’ development will be greatly aided by playing alongside England’s T20 World Cup winners such as Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone in the same way he learnt from grizzled veterans such as Australian superstar Glenn McGrath when he first joined the IPL in 2008.

“It was a huge occasion for me and a lot of the other players. The start of the IPL changed our lives. The people are really passionate about cricket. Not only with the home team but they support members in other teams as well,” De Villiers said.

“The biggest thing that stands out for me are the people that I met. I think of Glenn McGrath and the time I spent with him. He was this hard guy and all of a sudden I am sitting with him in the changeroom and having a beer with him.”

De Villiers was also full of praise for his former national team captain Graeme Smith, who in his role as BetwaySA20 League commissioner, has ensured South Africa will also now have a T20 league to rival the best in the world

“Graeme and I have come a long way together, and to have him right at the top of SA cricket right now, making a lot of good calls, and changing things,” he said.

“The Betway SA20 … I don’t think it would have been possible if it weren’t for him and all his connections and experience. I think we all owe Graeme a real thank you for bringing this big tournament to SA.”
