They are using IPL names with SA names
Were we so pathetic that we couldn’t create our own cricket franchise
I'm glad the Indian teams took such an interest when no local businesses would. Better chance of success as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe third time is a charm.

Well India put in the money so I am fine with it, If royals or Sunrisers is your "brand" it makes sense to use it. Ultimately this great for the local guys and some domestic guys might not play but at least they can train with the best.

To me it seems like we are not protecting our sport and selling out

Blame the SA business men/women. Their offers were vastly inferior to what the IPL teams offered.

CSA losses money on all tours except India. We need this tournament to safeguard our cricket.

We are not in their league of financial wealth of their movie stars and billionaires but we are capable to start our own with what we have.

There are benefits, it’s not all bad, it can be a catalyst for greater things to come. It just doesn’t feel right.

Those guys are shrewd businessmen and it would be risky to the sport if things go wrong considering what the sports been through in the past 4-5 years

Cricket South Africa has been one of the worst run organization in the country over the past decade, things might have changed recently but no local company with good governance would even considering giving them money. This league if successful might show local companies CSA has changed which will hopefully open doors for local investment, at least I hope so.

Should've taken a look at the BBL and followed that model instead of selling out to the IPL.
Johannesburg Super Kings! Mumbai Indians Cape Town! Paarl Royals! Pretoria Capitals! Sunrisers Eastern Cape!

I mean the originality behind the names are spot on /s. Where do all the royalties from merchandise sales go too? India? That's selling out instead of keeping the money to invest locally.

No doubt there will be local investment and advertising but no ownership
Royalties, merchandise, TV royalties and maybe strange brands advertising like MRF tyres and other income streams all go to India

With just six teams there's room for expansion if it's a success. Maybe local businesses will decide to step up.

I'm not sure it's that simple. Yes, some money might go to India, but equally having Indian involvement might make the league much more profitable (plus there’ll be established Indian fan bases, which means money). Broadcast rights will sell really well if guys like MS Dhoni end up being involved, which will also benefit CSA.

Anyways, if this league checks a few boxes (SA talent development, better earning potential for local players), then let's do it!

Means money...for whom and where? Will CSA be making a ton of cash out of this? Or will a lot of it be taken out the country and back to India.

Well, for example, when players are auctioned, money goes FROM the team owners (Indian) TO the league organisers (South African). Then wages paid to all the local players. Still have to see how broadcast rights pan out, but India is the most lucrative market, so Indian interest is a good thing.

Do South African companies want to sponsor an event with 2 million viewers in SA and 100 million in India

Looks cleaner than the Aussie one which looks like an advertising board. Maybe a series clean sweep against England will change that.
I'm rooting for us to shíthouse our way to the World Test Championship trophy without a sponsor.

Will be an interesting couple of years to that point. Unless the Cricket Mafia (Aus/India/England) only let us play teams below us to ensure we don't get the necessary points. Hopefully CSA doesn't cancel any Test series like they have with the ODI series against Aus.

Our fate is in our hands this cycle. We have to whitewash WI at home, and score a couple of wins in England and Oz. Final is likely against Australia, though.

Part of the ownership agreement is that they need to pump millions into the their local base areas for development. This will be done as has been done in the Caribbean.

As for big bash . Why should we copy a league which is now being left behind by the uae and sa one...
