Good win for the JSK. Can't look past the value of Faf's leadership to settle things down after their start. S

Judging by the first two games this should be a good few weeks ahead.
Yep, captaincy makes a difference.

How often have you seen Reeza bowl?
His stats say about 5% of the time in T20.
Faf bowled him his full 4 overs at an economy of 3.5 - the best of anyone in the match that bowled 2 or more overs.

Fereira is also not a bowler but both part timers did well to finish 8 overs
They need another good bowler, Joseph is good, just another decent bowler with some tricks up their sleeve

Joburg Super Kings spoil Durban’s Super Giants’ Kingsmead party

Thursday, 12 January: The sleeping giant of South African cricket, Kingsmead, awoke from its slumber in all its glory on the second night of the Betway SA20.

The KwaZulu-Natal patrons came out in full support of Durban’s Super Giants and were treated to a feast of high-quality entertainment.

Kingsmead has not witnessed such fanfare for many years with the fireworks adding to the spectacle produced out in the middle.

Joburg Super Kings may have won a high-scoring contest by 16 runs, but it was the people of Durban that were the real winners.

They were in full voice early on when the home team reduced Joburg Super Kings to 27/4 with local hero Keshav Maharaj initiating the first breakthrough.

Fellow homegrown product Prenelan Subrayen (2/26) and Sri Lankan spin maestro Akila Dananjaya (1/39) joined the party soon after.

But it was from here onwards that the Super Kings regained a foothold in the contest with captain Faf du Plessis (39) holding it all together before Donavon Ferreira was unleashed.

Player of the match, Ferreira, lived up to his pre-match billing with a blistering 82 off just 40 balls, and along with Romario Shepherd (40 off 19 balls) powered the Super Kings to 190/6 as the Super Giants lost their way at the backend.

The Kingsmead crowd never lost its voice at all though and were back on their feet supporting their team when Quinton de Kock and West Indian Kyle Mayers raced out of the blocks.

The Super Giants opening pair dominated the Powerplay and took it all the way to the 11th over before Mayers was dismissed for 39 leaving the home team on 98/1.

De Kock was central to the Super Giants getting close, but he did not receive sufficient support from Heinrich Klaasen (20), Wiaan Mulder (10), Dwaine Pretorius (14) and Jason Holder (2 not out).

The skipper eventually fell for 78 and walked back to the dressing room with the Super Giants’ chances unfortunately as they ultimately fell agonisingly short on a memorable night at Kingsmead.

Lovely stuff from JSK. Glad I got my ticket for Monday.

Six teams might not be enough. Maybe we can add 4 teams from BBL

I am sure they will add teams as the league develops. The central region definitely wants a team.

Might be hard for the Proteas to participate if the league goes on longer than it does this year. I'm looking at it now: our pacers just got off the plane from Aus, and they're playing this, and then they've got the Windies! Hope these okes don't burn out.

And IPL starts in late March.

its the monster that t20 created

players are stuck between earning big bucks for "minimal" work vs representing their country in tests and ODIs AND T20Is

And i know i sound like a broken record but the only way we can sort this out is to scrap ODIs completely and just have 2 formats. Let the money generated by T20 fund the test format.

The national games will take a back seat as it does with football
There will be less international tours more club cricket and the normal WC
The local franchises will grow and become more popular, then there will be more international cups for franchises and not national series

It's actually very easy. 4 overs every other day and you get a nice package.

And let's be honest the bowlers are still fresh. Hardly broke a sweat against Aus especially the last test.

this doesnt necessarily need to be the case.

If both tests and t20 are equally incentivised you will create specialists, but there will be a fair slice of the pie for everyone in their prefered format

This way the quality of both formats will go up as well.

The issue is that t20 franchises throw huge money at players, Cricket boards just cant compete... but if boards find a way to use t20 money to suppliment test salaries... then we have a middle ground that can serve both formats

I must say, ODI is also my least favourite format. T20 tournaments are much better than ODI bilaterals to me.

Was at the Durban game yesterday.
They must sort their stadium announcer out - while the bowler is running up he starts talking!

as a purist i detested t20 with a passion but i can see the potential it has for growing the game globally. that said, its being exploited by the pig3 to their ends.

ODIs back in the 90s and early 2000s were quality, but since t20 came around i cant see the point of playing them.

Edit: i dont wanna come accross as a cricket snob, I just REALLY love cricket and i want to see it do well... but its being driven into the ground by the status quo.

Something needs to change, and drastically

Why would anyone want to play test match cricket

Why would anyone want to play test match cricket
because it is exactly that... it is the true test of a cricketers ability

Till today, we still regard the best test players as greats... Someone hits a hundred in a t20 and its forgotten by the end of the week

but test 100s and 5fers live in our memories and carry way more weight

Now answer the same question as a 20 year old cricketer and not an old man

When is the last time you spoke with a young, top-end cricketer?
A long time ago and the question still stands
Look at Brevis, never made the national side but made millions by playing ipl, he will be happy to play T20 league cricket for the rest of his career, AB gave up national cricket for the same reasons
Money and fame trumps all
