In addition, the City of Cape Town has been announced as the official ‘Host City – Final’ partner, a ground-breaking partnership which will promote Cape Town to the League’s global network and audience.

Cape Town has long been a sought after tourist destination of choice across the world. From its heritage sites and iconic tourism landmarks; to its diverse arts and culture; as well as pristine natural resources and varied outdoor activities – the City has it all.

“With only 50 days to go until the first ball is bowled, today marks another significant day as we announce the City of Cape Town as our Host City for the Final and confirm our venues for the playoffs and Final ,” Betway SA20 League Commissioner, Graeme Smith said. “Summer and cricket have always been synonymous with one another and with the January/February window locked in annually, the SA20 will be the place to be. The Wanderers has played host to some of the most memorable clashes in the history of South African cricket, including the famous 438 game, the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup Final and the 2023 Betway SA20 Final.

Nestled beneath the towering mountain, the famous Oaks embankment, boisterous Railway Stand, distinct smell from the nearby brewery and breathtaking sunsets combined with legendary white-ball cricket contests… Newlands turns every match into a classic.

“As the City of Cape Town, we’re excited to partner with Betway SA20 and showcase our beautiful city during their Season 2 playoffs and Final. We were proud when the joint-most successful IPL team, Mumbai Indians, chose Cape Town to be home for their SA20 franchise and hope that securing Newlands as the venue for the Final will be a good omen for MI Cape Town in Season 2,” Deputy Mayor, Eddie Andrews said.

“We saw the buzz around the city, from cricket enthusiasts to casual sports fans alike during Season 1. Furthermore, the economic and environmental impact of the League aligns with our goals of making lives better for our citizens. We can’t wait to work with SA20 to showcase incredible cricket and our incredible city throughout the tournament, culminating in the playoffs and final at Newlands.”

Betway SA20 celebrates 30 days to go with the introduction of the SA20 lolly

SA20 Lolly to take incredible ‘Taste of Summer’ on a countrywide tour

Monday 11 December 2023: As temperatures rise, so does the excitement for the second season of Betway SA20 starting on 10 January 2024. With only 30 days to go until the first ball, the League is celebrating this milestone by introducing the first-ever SA20 ice lolly.

In many stadiums around the country, lollies and ice creams are synonymous with summer and a day at the cricket. As part of the countdown to the start of South Africa’s premier T20 League, the SA20 Ice Lolly Truck will make its way around the six cities of Durban, Gqeberha, Paarl, and Cape Town during the holiday season, before heading up country to Johannesburg and Pretoria in the new year.

South Africa’s top cricketing superstars, Proteas legends and personalities will be joining in on the SA20 Lolly fun around the country, spreading the excitement and ‘gees’ this summer.

With only 30 days to go until the opening match of Season 2 on 10 January 2024 between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings at St George's Park in Gqeberha, the team coaches are also starting to feel the excitement in the build-up.

“We are very excited for January and SA20 2024,” Sunrisers Eastern Cape coach, Adi Birrell said. “Every team has got stronger this year so it will be a challenge to defend the Trophy. We can't wait for our first match against Joburg Super Kings on January 10th. We had terrific support last season and we look forward to the unique St George’s Park vibe to swing us along. Last season was a huge success for cricket in South Africa and I am sure the public as a whole will help showcase this to be one of the premier T20 leagues around the globe.”

“The way South Africa's cricket-loving public embraced the tournament was wonderful to see. Season 1 gave a glimpse of what the SA20 can be in the years to come: competitive cricket, terrific fan following and plenty of young talent from South Africa. I'm looking forward to more of the same in Season 2. The atmosphere in our home venue, Wanderers, in particular, was amazing. Fittingly, the quality of cricket was top-notch. We have retained our core from last year and made some fresh additions to the squad via the auction. We're looking forward to putting up another competitive campaign this year,” Joburg Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming added.

Pretoria Capitals coach Graham Ford, is equally excited to get the new season underway.

“Season 1 was thoroughly enjoyable and I personally am really looking forward to once again having the privilege of witnessing the energy, excitement, commitment and passion of the Capitals players. Our aim will be to further expand and develop the exciting and enjoyable brand of cricket produced by the Capitals in Season 1,” Ford said.

Durban’s Super Giants coach Lance Klusener is also certainly ready to get cracking.

“We’re in it, to win it no doubt! The first step to that is to make the playoffs. We have a very well-balanced squad of players to challenge any team on any surface. I am looking forward to the challenge.” Klusener said.

Season 2 will also see new coaches at the helm of the two Western Cape teams MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals respectively, and Robin Peterson and Shane Bond cannot wait to get a taste of Betway SA20.

“Coaching in the SA20 is a big honour for me,” Peterson said. “South Africa's cricketing talent makes it special, and I believe this season will be even more spectacular. We have taken the learnings from the first season and come up with a squad that we have a lot of confidence in. Armed with seasoned internationals and talented youngsters, we're set for the season ahead. We are excited to reconnect with our amazing fans who turned up to the stadiums in huge numbers in the first season. We want to put on a show for them and entertain them by playing the MI brand of cricket!”

"I will be coming back to South Africa after a gap of 10 years so I'm really excited as it's a really cool place to play cricket,” the New Zealand legend, Bond said.

“I watched the league from the outside in the first season, and it seemed great on the tele with amazing crowds turning up for the games. I'm really excited at the opportunity of working with the Miller’s, Ngidi’s and Shamsi’s in our set-up. The passion and popularity for cricket is obviously huge in South Africa, especially when you talk about white ball competitions like the SA20.”

The league invites fans to be a part of this deliciously exciting experience while having a lolly to make you jolly to celebrate SA20 cricket this summer! Follow the buzz with #SA20Lolly and be ready to indulge in the Incredible Taste of Summer!

Betway Catch R2 million returns for Season 2 of Betway SA20

Fans stand a chance to double their winnings should they have a Betway account

New ‘Game of Zones’ predictor to launch in January

Thursday, 14 December
: With Betway SA20 set to make an exciting return starting on 10 January 2024 , title sponsors of the competition, Betway, are excited to once again be taking the stakes higher, as the globally acclaimed sports betting and entertainment brand proudly announces the return of the Betway Catch R2 Million campaign.

The innovative addition to the League was an outstanding success in Season 1, with a number of fans getting their share of the R2 Million prize money through a one-handed clean catch off a six during all Betway SA20 matches.

South Africa’s premier T20 cricket league has assembled some of the world’s best batters to set the second season alight, that will also significantly increase the chances for fans in the stands at the life-changing catch.

Fans attending matches will be treated to an amplified stadium experience, to merge with a line-up of top South African entertainment artists and world-class cricket.

Betway SA20 League Commissioner, Graeme Smith, says elevating the fan experience is an important priority for Season 2 of the League.

"Fan engagement is at the heart of every great sporting event, and the Betway Catch R2 million competition is no exception,” Smith said. “The excitement that the competition brought to the fans in Season 1 was unmatched, we saw how the Catch R2 million fever spread across the six stadiums and beyond, it's fantastic to have it back for Season 2. It not only adds an extra element of thrill to the game but also gives fans a unique opportunity to actively participate in the action and stand a chance to win a life-changing reward. I’m looking forward to seeing how the catching goes this season.”

Betway Head of Marketing, Mark Rowles, said they were excited to be at the forefront of Betway SA20 and spearheading innovative initiatives that are in line with the brand’s passion for sport and fan engagement.

“As proud sponsors of Betway SA20, we are excited to be leveraging off the huge success of the inaugural edition, which saw fans directly engaging with the Betway brand. Seeing the huge success that came with the Betway Catch R2 Million campaign for fans in stadia and viewers at home, we are excited to bring it back for the second edition of Betway SA20. We therefore urge fans to come in numbers, and more importantly, increase their chances of doubling their prize money by opening up a Betway account. In addition to the Catch R2 Million campaign, in the week of the opening fixture, we will be launching an exciting new promotion called “Game of Zones,” said Rowles.

Betway customers around the country who are not able to make it to the matches will have the chance to predict in which zone of the stadium a clean one-handed catch will be taken. Customers that correctly predict the zone will stand a chance to win the same amount as those fans who take the catch live in stadium.

As in the previous season, by virtue of being a Betway customer, account holders will have their winnings doubled should they be the lucky winners of a one-handed catch.

Betway SA20 will take place between 10 January – 10 February 2024 in Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban, Gqeberha, Johannesburg and Paarl. The first match takes place at St George’s Park in Gqeberha when defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape host Joburg Super Kings on Wednesday 10 January. Tickets for the matches are available at www.SA20.co.za
Fans are reminded of this important rule of the competition:

The catch must be a clean one-handed catch and not have touched anything more than the palm of the spectator (person who catches the ball). This means that the ball cannot come off a hat, umbrella, another hand, shoulder chest, or juggled either between hands or on one hand.

Competition rules and terms & conditions are available on www.betway.co.za/latestpromos and www.sa20.co.za.

Due to responsible betting guidelines, no-one under the age of 18 is eligible to win. T’s and Cs apply.

Betway is licensed and regulated by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. No persons under the age of 18 are eligible to win. T’s and Cs apply

Following a highly successful inaugural season, SuperSport and its partners are introducing numerous innovations in the second edition of the competition, aimed at providing television audiences and fans with unprecedented viewing experiences.

These innovative, exciting new elements include the Com Cam, giving viewers at home a fixed view of the commentary box, with big-name former international cricketers providing expert commentary and analysis.

Merging the match-day and on-screen experiences are features such as the Dug Out, which is a boundary-level camera that connects directly with the players and coaches close to the boundary ropes and the iconic Couch, where commentators, fans and celebrities engage while enjoying the cricket.

SuperSport aims to transcend the matchday experience into the home to make the millions of viewers as much a part of the action as the thousands cheering for their franchises in the stands.

Match Official technology will provide viewers with the experience of hearing direct communication between Umpires during the live broadcast of matches – another first of its kind for Betway SA20. Fans will not only hear the third umpire but communication between the on-field umpires, too.

SuperSport CEO, Rendani Ramovha, expressed his delight that the stadium spectators and the viewers will be able to share experiences like never before.

“Building on the success of Season 1, SuperSport is stepping up our game to bring viewers the experience to match the Betway SA20 action. “The fans in the stadiums will also be closer to the television production beamed around the globe. With the addition of Quidich technology and other spectacular innovations, SuperSport will provide live on-field player tracking, a gamified player-naming look and feel as well as the revolutionary BuggyQam, which is a roving camera on wheels that puts the viewers right in the middle of the cricketing action.

“It really is poised to be a summer filled with cricket experiences to savour.”

The flagship of South African wildlife, the Big 5, will also form part of the experience that makes the League a unique global product. Animations of the iconic Big 5 will provide fun illustrations of dismissals, fours and sixes, adding to the viewer experience.

Betway SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith said: “Betway SA20 and SuperSport have put in a lot of effort behind the scenes to bring an elevated and engaging viewing experience for Season 2.

“Innovation is at the heart of what we do, and together with SuperSport, we want to raise the bar in the way we watch cricket but also create a platform for fans to engage, connect, and experience the game in a whole new way. The Netherlands will start their preparation for the 2024 T20 World Cup early in the New Year, naming a strong 16-man squad travelling to South Africa for a seven-match programme against some of the country’s top T20 sides.

The tour will also help several of the SA20 franchise teams with their preparation for this season’s competition, which begins on 10 January with a game between the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and the Joburg Super Kings at St George’s Park, Gqeberha (previously named Port Elizabeth).

The Dutch will be playing two matches against the Sunrisers there on 4 and 6 January, before moving on to the Western Cape, where they will play two games against the Paarl Royals and one against MI Cape Town, a Mumbai Indians’ colonial outpost, at Newlands on 8 January.
