"It's very busy because of the economic activity in the country and also the Argus coming up this weekend," he said, adding that about 60 000 passengers were expected to pass through the airport this weekend.

Bwhahaham, they cant even handle 60000 passengers for a weekend, imagine if all the tourists flood here for 2010.

The airport will probably have to shutdown and/or import skilled ppl.

Well, although I'd love to eat my words, I'm of the opinion that 2010 will be yanked from us before then, so I guess we won't need to worry about these 'little' logistics problems anyway.

yes we don't , there's still a very long way to go.

Uhm...

And they are actually in the process of upgrades as well. The negative views of this forum impress me sometimes....

If the current airport cant even handle 60000 ppl, i take it the new one will be able. But much arent we expecting much more than 60000.

Is not only the airport infrastructure that needs upgrade but the ppl working there

This place. It is amazing that anything actually works anymore here. I dare anyone to have a security problem here and actually try and get hold of the SAPS or even better, try andf get free medical help. LOL what a joke.

Umm but it is not struggling at all to handle the amount of people... Sooooo what is the point?

It's amazing that so many people are happy to bitch on this thread about it when something is going fine.

He got asked about it and he said it would be busy. Wow f(*&ing news flash that was...

Man no wonder I avoid this part of the forum.

Oh and Marine1 when I got robbed I had 6 cops at my premises in < 5 minutes. That's not a bad response.

Have any of you guys travelled to other major airports overseas over a holiday weekend, it is just as chaotic there.....

The reason they cant handle the traffic is because the baggage handlers dont have enough time to go thru your bag to decide what to steal.

Hhhmm, this was the point...

Actually no. If SA was a more "civilized society" like Canada is, then it is unlikely that gavinmannion would have been robbed in the first place.

Even before I left SA we were robbed at least a dozen or more times. I have lived in Canada for 18 years and I have never been robbed.

And no one else else has ever been robbed in Canada. Why do you have cops then? Surely they are not just there to cut parking tickets.:D

I am only speaking from my own experience. I have never been robned in 18 years. As for the police that is why donut stores flourish in Canada, they have nothing else to do except eat donuts and hand out speeding tickets.

Of course they investigate the 20 murders we have here every year. That keeps our 3 police officers in the city relatively busy.

Slight exaggeration perhaps? Either you have more than three cops or your definition of "city" is different to most.

Lets not forget that you said this:

The point is that you got robbed.

And the second point is that you will probably get robbed again.

So evidently you think its the polices job to prevent crime by using their amazing psychic powers and getting to the scene before the crime is committed.

Obviously government should do what they can to create jobs and provide services that would discourage people from committing crimes to begin with.

Tell me, how is the Canadian government dealing with the inequality and extreme poverty and lack of education left behind by the previous Canadian regime?

Our government may suck. Its certainly corrupt and inept to a large degree but even if we had an honest and capable government I seriously doubt they would have been able to sort out the huge fccking mess we had starting 12 years ago by now. Poverty, unemployment and crime may not have been quite as high as they are now if we had had a better government but they would certainly be way higher than in your precious, boring, nanny state.

Be happy that you live in your rather dull uneventful country with its relatively boring history by all means. Theres certainly nothing wrong with a peaceful, worry free existence. But do us a favor and stop pouring oil on the fire we have here. Encouraging the whingers and the whiners we have to put up with here is really a base and mean spirited pass time for someone lucky enough to lead the existence you do.
Honestly Canadian get a life and leave us to make the best of ours here.

Hello Nick333,

Long time no hear.

How are you supposed to change your guavament if you don't see the other side? And haven't you heard the expression, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease"?

The more people that DEMAND change, the better the chance of that change coming about, or are you prepared to continue living in your increasingly miserable existence? Or are the masses in SA too brainwashed to see that there is a world out there that works?

My mother of 80 has lost her government pension because of the inept government now in power in SA. This kind of stupidity would NEVER have happened here in Canada!

That really sucks and the sad truth is that many people who qualify for grants don't get them and people who have saved their whole lives to enjoy their senior years get shafted by the guavamint. I tend to agree with you that Canada is a more "civilised" country and the guavamint there would not be so narrowminded and money hungry so as to steal pension from the aged. But yeah even so I have hope in SA that we'll come right, SA is a lekka country to live in (great weather, great chicks etc.) but crime and other things are overshadowing the good stuff. If people kept a clear mind and DEMANDED change (as you say) then change would actually happen.
