Johannesburg - South African Airways (SAA) on Friday released a media statement announcing the suspension of its Chief Commercial Officer, Sylvain Bosc before he had been informed of their decision.

Almost 12 hours after issuing the statement, the national carrier issued another statement, retracting the first one, claiming it had been prematurely issued.

"South African Airways retracts its earlier media statement on the suspension of its Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Sylvain Bosc, which the airline issued prematurely," the airline said.

"... Mr Bosc is yet to receive notification of the disciplinary enquiry and formal complaints arising from such suspension."

Bosc was reportedly being suspended as a result of "serious allegations relating to an alleged misrepresentation made by him to the board in respect of the Abu Dhabi ".

A forensic investigation was under way.

SAA said the chairperson of the disciplinary enquiry would determine whether or not Bosc was guilty of the alleged offence and the company said it did not mean to tarnish Bosc's image in the earlier statement.

"To the extent that the media release may suggest that Mr Bosc has been found guilty of any misconduct or impropriety it is sincerely regretted and no impairment to Mr Bosc’s identity was sought or intended," SAA said.

Holy sht...how exactly do you manage to issue a public statement of the suspension of a C-level staff member before the staff member is informed of that there is even enquiry at all let alone a formal suspension. FKIN HOW? Doubt that is even legal.

Maybe the guy did something wrong...maybe not. Right now I'm more concerned about the idiots that brought about the above situation...why aren't they up for suspension?

Anyway...hoping the guy sues SAA for a bunch of money. Sure the taxpayer will end up footing the bill but at least it'll highlight that someone here is astonishingly incompetent.

The Abu Dhabi? Really? He made misrepresentation to the board about the peoples of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi? Or will it rather be that there is a word or 2 missing there?

Wonder if SAA messed up that statement further or this is a News24 mess up.

Either way - they both qualify for this award for bad proof-reading & editorial / publishing slip-ups!

I know it's not the pilots but who manages the servicing, maintenance, fuel etc

The misrepresentation has something to do about the code share with Abu Dhabi. The new route will close in Feb/Mar because a lot of money was being lost due to the agreement with Etihad...

Flight operations at SAA is still probably the best on the continent. Comair, which run British Airways and Kulula use SAA Technincal (maintenance).

The problem is at the executive and board level.
