SAA Spreading It's Wings To Perth

Still won't fly them.
This froggy has had enough of the hot tub.
 
I will definitely fly them. I have had to experience the pain of connecting via doha or Singapore just to get to Perthfontein 5 times this year. It is really tiring

Flew with SAA to CT recently, was cheaper than FlySafair plus we got breakfast.
I'm a direct flight kinda guy so the more the merrier.

Yes, but they are aquiring others now. They are only considering the A350 at this time. Guess is that the A350 wont be used on the Perth route because it wont be in time for the launch of the flights. They are also looking at doing London, Frankfurt, New York and Washington routes.

My bet is on the A330. Whether this will be the CEO or NEO model I dont know. Not sure if there are NEO models available from lessors.
 
I flew Johannesburg to Accra on SAA in January of this year. Was on an A330. While it was nothing amazing, it sure beat having to connect via Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Dubai etc.

However flying domestically SAA will be my last choice purely out of principle.

Go through Singapore. You avoid going through the third world shithole that Jan Smuts Airport has become, and easy connections to seven Australian cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin and Johannesburg East) and two New Zealand cities (Auckland, Christchurch). Plus, if you have a bit of time to kill during transit, Singapore is an amazing place to explore.

The downside: Singapore Airlines tends to be rather pricey.

If you're thinking about the other option (Qantas between Sydney and Johannesburg), that's torture. Nothing to do with Qantas themselves, and everything to do with the flight timing. The flight eastbound follows the sun for 14 hours, so you end up totally buggered by the time you arrive. Thankfully, the return flight is a lot better: 2 hours quicker and overnight.

You've got to be either a masochist or a moron to consider going via the Middle East.
