I took a friend's Saab 9-3 around the block this weekend now I want one. Yes, I know Saab doesn't exist anymore and that parts are scarce. But Saab made the best built cars you can find, which probably meant their downfall as they made their cars too good. They are fugly cars but they provide the most satisfied driving experience. Now I see here and there a Saab under R50k. Saab 900 from around 1996-99 and Saab 9-3 from around 2002 if you're lucky. I want to know if I should buy one. Are there any users with experience with these cars? Can one find parts somewhere if against all odds something does break?

Dude, I'm with you. I'm looking to buy a snotter to just use around town, and keep clicking on those cheap Saab 9-3 turbo convertibles that keep popping up for around R50K.
I have to shamefully acknowledge though, that I also keep closing those ads when I think about the "what if's" with no back-up network.

The early 900's were solid cars, but the later one's did have their issues. So yea, a 50/50, but then too I'm thinking, ten years from now you would be able to say to your grankids you drove a car from a now defunct car maker. That must be worth something when 10 years on you still have it because you can't get it sold. :D

.....

I find myself neglecting the landy too much and between that and the Saab, I have to keep the former.

Damn dude, you are a sucker for punishment.....:wtf:

P.S. kidding...I had a Defender and an Alfa at the same time. Damn I miss working on stuff.:D

I had a Saab 93 in England in 2003/4. Well built and solid. Fantastic heater. Parts and service easily available in London. One strange thing was the tyres (MIchelin X) at the front wore down in 12000 miles. Also, the car was a bit prone to understeer in the wet. I also had a set of snow tyres which I sometimes used in winter. The local garage would keep them for you and fit them when you needed them.
