SABC - Access To Home Address

Yesterday I bought a TV from a merchant who has access to the SABC TV Licence Database. The procedure is that they enter your ID number and it come up with your details including your home address.

My concern is that if I have just bought a R20K display do I really want "unknown people" to have free access to details of the address where it is going to be? I think not.

Surely a confirmation that the licence is valid is all that is necessary.

Incidently you must also have a phone number to have a TV Licence, the data isn't accepted without one.

Yes, same goes for your car.

A while ago the guys that fits Tracker to your vehicle, were selling the customers' home addresses to syndicates.

I guess it's fatal when they deliver it to your house - they know what your house looks inside, etc. I know a plasma is damn heavy, but I'd rather grab a mate to help me get it in the car when buying one.

id number as in sa id number? surely your tv license number is all they would need?

A friend of mine's 50 inch plasma got stolen in broad daylight earlier this week.
