SABC moves to block a documentary it comissioned

Well that's a bit dumb...

Sounds like someone was surprised as to what they found out about themselves....

Surely this brings into dispute the accuracy of the reporting on SABC, if they're trying to censor themselves? Methinks the BCCSA might have something to say about this...

mistake in article? did you mean post-apartheid government? that sounds more believable.

Erm, it means what the article said. I think part of the negotiated settlement pre 94 was that they can't pursue those things that happened then. How can you believe such an immoral and criminal government can be above corruption?

I think Easter Bunny was taking into account that, mostly likely, many more billions of Rands have been misappropriated by the politicians post-apartheid. Just have a look at the auditor-general's report:

Auditor-General’s report is a shocking indictment of state expenditure.

R24.8 billion – to be exact. That’s the bill for unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful spending by provincial departments and entities.

That’s what Auditor-General (AG) Terence Nombembe and his team found during their 2011/12 audit – and it’s almost R4 billion more than the previous review.

Shockingly, Nombembe and his team audited 29 fewer departments and entities, but the bill for provincial misspending still soared.

And, the AG has warned, this misuse of public funds has “become the norm”.

The biggest provincial offenders were the North West government, with R4.165 billion; KwaZulu-Natal, which incurred R3.993 billion; and Free State, with R3.255 billion.

The SA Institute of Race Relations calculated what could have been paid for by the state with the wasted R24.8 billion.

They found that during the audited period:

» Child-support grants could have been paid for 7.4 million children – 70% of those currently being paid out;

» More than 400 schools could have been built;

» At least 550 new prisons could have been built;

» The country’s total water and sanitation infrastructure for one year could have been covered; and

» The president’s salary could be paid for 9 000 years.

And that's just one year's misappropriated TAX money.

And that only includes the monies wasted by the departments that were audited, so real figure is even higher.

From this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-Risk-SARS?p=10366954&viewfull=1#post10366954

Sars was talking to multinational companies after incurring a revenue loss of over R3bn as a result of these practices.

"And this is just the tip of the iceberg," said Magashula.

Yep, the rest of the iceberg is anc corruption...

Corruption in South Africa has reached epidemic levels and threatens the lives of all South African citizens. Money lost due to government corrupt could have been used to better the lives of all South African citizens, especially the poor.

Global Financial Integrity said in a report that South Africa had suffered an illegal outflow of R185-billion due to corruption in the public sector between 1994 and 2008, it is estimated that in 2009 government corruption totalled R70 billion.

In 2010, audit firm BDO reported that company fraud in South Africa was “escalating at an alarming rate” and estimated that the “total annual leakage” from fraud, theft and corruption amounted to R100 billion.

Mr. Willie Hofmeyr, then head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) told South Africa’s Parliament that between R25-billion and R30-billion of government’s annual procurement budget alone was lost to corruption, incompetence and negligence.

A further four cases, valued at R171-million and involving several departments within government are currently being investigated by the SIU.

Lawson Naidoo of the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution said: "It's estimated that 20% of the GDP is lost to corruption annually.

South Africa as a nation has lost a staggering R385 billion since 1994 due to corruption at every level in government.

Before the old ship that was the Apartheid order sank in the seas of the 1994 democratic transition, public funds were "invested" by the former governor of the Reserve Bank in "lifeboats" to failing Apartheid era banks. Amounting to an estimated 30 Billion Rands, it has been alleged that these transactions were illegal and that all money transferred by them is recoverable with interest.

So, less than 10% of what the anc stole through corruption, which must also be "recoverable with interest"...

Make convicted corruption punishable by death and implement capped basic salaries for state employees and politicians, but with performance bonuses.
Problem solved... Well the first bit might be a tad hard to implement ;)
