SABC needs evidence to back up protest decision: Icasa

Is there any evidence that would indicate that the visuals are inciting more violence? Because Tshwane has been burning with or without cameras

Yeah, to me it seems its more violent without cameras, people know they won't be filmed setting fire to stores and houses, carrying the fridges etc... just my 2cents /shrug

The jury is out I think.

In our circle, the ones that believe cameras incite more violence is almost exactly balanced by those that say the opposite.

The authorities should start using camera footage to prosecute perpetrators. that may help to swing the tide.

Yeah, you're right. No one can say how something could have been 'if'. Did it stop 'outbreaks' in other parts of SA, possibly, did it increase scale of looting locally, possibly. Personally though, I have never seen that scale of looting before(maybe just missed news in the past), entire mall stripped for example, and that leads me to my 2c conclusion.

It's not just you, it has been reported that those were the worst protests post-1994.

I don't recall anything on that scale pre-1994.

The problem is most of us never saw what was really going on before 1994 ... The exception was those of us that had personnel working in certain areas and who had to travel in those areas at times most of the time under escort ... Was not pretty . But then major Malls did not exist then either ....
