I saw on Reddit, apparently its a new trend, where if people speak more than one language. They believe they must be paid for for the 2nd language. How fluently they use it depends on the extra pay they receive. The free subscription tier is the worst.

Maybe the journo is following this trend.

Amplats placed Bokoni under care and maintenance when it fell out with its BEE partner, Atlatsa Resources, which it said had accumulated a debt of R4 billion, leading to a further 3 000 job losses.
