There is something "seriously amiss" at SABC television, the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of SA said today, after rapping the national broadcaster over the knuckles for again broadcasting adult material at a time of day when children were watching.

"We find that SABC2 and SABC3 contravened clause 21 of the Code of Conduct by broadcasting the promo of the film "Lord of the Rings" and the episode of "The Summit" respectively at times when children might have been part of the audience," the commission said in a statement.

Its finding stems from an investigation of complaints lodged with the commission.

The BCCSA said the finding was aggravated by the fact that this was not the first time the SABC had been warned about adult material being broadcast at an inappropriate time. However, the commission stopped short of imposing fines on the two television stations.

Do I understand this correctly - no material unsuitable for children may be broadcast during childrens awake time ? Adult content is only supposed to be scheduled for after 8pm ?

Lord of the Rings is hardly porn !

And it of course begs the question of where the complaining parents were while their kids were watching The Summit.

Every soapie should then be banned with all their whoring. The one repeat SABC screens that I love and someone decides to complain instead of telling the kids that the trees and the giant eye being killed aren't real. I hope their kids have porn on their phones.
 
they too lazy to check what their kids are watching...other people must perform their duties...i make it my business to know what my kid watches...idiot parents....lord of the rings..my goodness...

did they say which scene it was?

You people are fixated with porn, aren't you? Has it occured to you that the word "adult" might imply something other than sex and nudity? I switched on SABC to find LOTR showing with my three-year-old daughter sitting next to me and she immediately started covering her ears and telling me she was scared. That was after about 30 seconds. There are actually things in this world that are not suitable for children that are also not porn.

So you are the one that needs to get laid?

Seriously, teach your kids the difference between Reality and Fiction aka Movies/television and she would not have been scared. That or change the channel. My kids know the difference and they are free to leave the TV room and go watch something else on another tele if they feel it's a bit harsh. They are 6 and 4. My boy (4) plays BF2 and BFBC2 which is prob 10x worse than LoTR and he knows it's only a game.

I would not let them watch sex or sex scenes on TV nor will I let them watch gay scenes on TV shows. Appart from that they can watch what they want when they want. Hiding kids from reality is not keeping them safe ;)
 
There is an age restriction on Lord of the Rings which makes it unsuitable for 3 year olds so why was she even watching it ?

The point is, is everyone over the age of 18 supposed to watch only Disney and Hallmark movies all day until the little ones go to bed ?

How is a 3 year old supposed to know how to change the channel? Seriously... did you read his post before you commented?
Parents sometimes let their kids play in front of the TV not expecting that a PG-13 movie will suddenly be broadcast during the children's programming time.
That was what the complain was about.

Erm, my kids can :confused: They even know which channel the Cartoon Network is on ;)

However, SABC from what I remember was running a massive add campaign for LoTR for weeks. I recall seeing it and I don't even watch SABC. What I find funny is that these same people think Gay/Interracial scenes in soaps are fine but for the love of all that is good, don't dare show some action/fiction on TV :mad:

Perhaps parents should do their damn job then and not expect TV to do it for them.

It is impossible for ANY parent to watch their child 24/7. Don't be silly. How do you know he didn't step out of the room to go to the bathroom? Be serious.
