"I have today written to the Acting CEO and Editor in Chief, Gabriel Mampone, to request that he gives the Democratic Alliance the same opportunity to set out its alternative vision and policies," she said in a statement.

"Giving the president of the ANC a special platform without affording the opposition the same opportunity is biased, partial and unbalanced. This is particularly true in this case because Zuma used this platform to say that the DA has no policies," she said.

Zuma 'unchallenged'

The interviewer should not have allowed Zuma's statement on the DA to go unchallenged.

"It is ironic for Jacob Zuma to make these comments when he has steadfastly refused to join me in a televised policy debate, despite repeated requests to do so. Perhaps if Mr Zuma agreed to debate me, he might brush up on the DA's policies," Zille said.

What are the chances you think?

After seeing a portion of this I concluded that is was nothing more than the ANC trying to calm their voter base and attempt to get more votes.
I figured why is the official opposition not sitting acriss from Zuma.

I don't think it's the ANC's fault really, as their marketing team has been in overdrive recently. I mean the past two weeks on Yfm, an independant station, the ANC has been on twice (Malema and JZ). And I think it stems from their crisis.

And critisism of the DA and others is that they are not out there pounding the pavements. They want to sit in studios and debate the whole time, IMO. And that is one of the reasons the opposition has not made any grounds.

So I think it is a little tough to complain about the SABC when you are not doing anything yourself.

Or maybe I'm reading/watching the wrong media and don't see/hear about the opposition's campaigning.

Campaigning is one thing, but I think that a good old debate between the parties would be much more entertaining, than hearing agreed upon questions and answers for an hour.

Agreed, however they are all components of an Election drive, IMO. But if I take a step back and look at things, the DA is probably happy with just electronic media and then the odd appearance in the townships closer to elections.

It's not how you going to beat the ANC though.

Indeed. People wants to meet the person they are going to vote for. A picture on a poster is not going to do it.

The DA will never beat the ANC as such, but the point is as a 'national' broadcaster, who is supposedly unbiased, do the opposition parties not have a right to feel aggrieved at the one-sided coverage afforded to the ANC and the Zuma contingent?

I disagree, they have so much potential. If they can just get off their asses and play to WIN, and not weaken the ANC. But a topic for another thread?

..., but the point is as a 'national' broadcaster, who is supposedly unbiased, do the opposition parties not have a right to feel aggrieved at the one-sided coverage afforded to the ANC and the Zuma contingent?

What I trying to say with my comment of the ANC's spin doctors department was that the ANC is actively looking for opprtunities. And can we say the same of the DA? If they say that they were denied the chance after making the request, then I would understand why they are agrieved. But to sit and expect an invitation is not on.

100% !

Fair enough, well lets see then if they are afforded the same opportunity now that they have requested that from the SABC.

On the DA beating the ANC, they can and have, but they choose their battles to maximise the result. i.e Cape Town.
The DA will never, not in my lifetime, be a majority party in SA, unless there is a fundemental shift or rift that forms in the ANC. It will take more than one alternative new opposition party being formed to facilitate that and weaken the ANC to that extent I believe.
As you guys have stated often on this forum, the 'masses' will never accept the DA as a viable alternative to the ANC, as a result of the countries history in general, irrespective of how they elect to campaign.
Anyway, lets see how rthe Shikota party takes shape.

I was listening to Zuma in one-on-one interviews and it seems he fairly often uses the phrase "as you know ..."

Just an observation.

Yup, quite correct. Also 'this thing' hehe
He talks around issues, never directly addressing the questions presented to him. He talks in circles going nowhere, ever.
He also talks as though he is addressing a grade 1 class, really, and I am not trying to be facetious either.

That's the nature of politicians :D

On the contrary, politicians like Zille are very concise and to the point. No beating about the bush whatsoever.

During that SABC interview by Mbuli, I lost count of the number of times he used the words "debate issues". The impression I got is that the NWC, NEC makes decisions and Zuma agrees & adopts them as part of the collective.
