SABS removing multi-plug extenders off shelves

Hi there

I became aware that the SABS is apparently pulling multi-plug extenders i.e. the corded type that has 4 or more outlets, from the shelves.

I tried to acquire 5 of them for workstations for my company and I was told by my supplier to go to any regular store and "buy them while I can"

Good lord that document is badly written. Is that an actual bona fide article meant for public release?

I've had some multiplugs that give a nice (bright) blue spark if you plug something in. Scared the $%#@ out of my little sister.

I only use the switched type with overload protection. Normally the Snapper brand supplied by Clipsal. I haven't had any problems getting them or heard anything form suppliers about them being pulled from the market.

I'm at present in Kazakhstan which is right next to China.

The market is filled with chinese products. Some excellent. Some bad.

The biggest "shock" I had up to now is to realise it is possible to make staples (26/6 type) as bad as I got here - ex china.

There is lots of money to be made by importing a batch of bad stuff, sell it, vanish and reappear under a different company name. Cash strained people will rather buy a product of lower quality than spend additional cash on proper quality.

My supplier, refuses to sell me any adaptors, regardless of make, citing that they have been instructed not to sell any of them, so it appears to apply to all makes at present.

It has been done that way for a long time already. This is how the dodgy Chinese electronics manufacturers beat the rap when it comes to complying with the requirements of the "CE" mark- especially PC motherboard manufacturers. Those of you who are engineers know how difficult it can be to pass the tests to get the "CE" mark.
