SACO Poster

Looks like a rather poor attempt at satire to me.

I say poor because, while believable in its irony, it's unfortunately in very, very poor taste.

Too fake, I'm surprised ghoti would fall for right wing FUD. The other give away is that SASCO are at odds with Malema.

I am reporting on what the DA Youth are saying. I expect them to have people on the ground who know about these things.

When I go to the DA youth website linked to above by ghoti I get

"Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here."

Try that:

They're a political group and, as such, are very inclined to jump to extreme leaps of the imagination before thoroughly investigating. Cognitive bias, really--prepared to believe anything about the opposition.

Possibly, but with the limited information I have, I cant make the same conclusion as you have. I think Ill wait to see what happens.

Wasn't there an incident some time back where pamphlets were being distributed supposedly by the DA but they turned out to be fake? I'm sure this is a similar thing.

That was so obviously not by SASCO, no idea why the DA didn't investigate first before reacting so strongly.

It should still be reported to the HRC. Regardless of who did it. It's divisive hate speech and the perpetrators should be dealt with.

It's the DA youth who reacted apparently. Being youth I guess we must forgive them the stupidity.

You understand what satire is, I assume?

Perhaps the "hate-speech" bit is lost on me but while this can be thought of as incitement or even dangerous (considering how easily some folk are provoked) I wouldn't go so far as to call this "hate-speech."

It's no different to some of the articles you see on Hayibo.

In fact, I think it serves a bloody good job of bringing awareness to how insecure, easily provoked and quick to believe anything written on a piece of paper we are.

To me this type of stuff falls in the same type of category that Poe's Law fits into. Its happened so many times and if you read the ANCYL FB page that I linked to earlier. Its sometimes hard to tell the real from the fake.

Yes I understand what satire is. It is, however different to hayibo in that it was not published on a satire web site, but rather plastered all over a university campus, purporting to be a product of one of the active organisations on said campus.

It contains offensive terms - if similar terms were used to describe black people it would be decried as hate speech immediately. Witness the furore when someone is called a baboon.... but cockroach is ok?
