Let's hope this finally fixes it. :)

Safari 5.1.2

Improve stability
Address issues that could cause hangs and excessive memory usage
Address issues that could cause webpages to flash white
Allow PDFs to be displayed within web content

Have been running it since beta, solved the problem for me. FYI In future if you have problems you can always download the latest webkit version

I wonder if that will fix Chrome's problems.
Webkit is the foundation browser for both Safari and Chrome (I.e. the joint effort of Apple and Google's webkit dev teams).

If the bug was in the base, then I'm sure the fix will have also been applied to Chrome.

Safari and Chrome are in fact webkit with extras I.e. at the Safari and Chrome stage Apple and Google would have applied their own personal flavor to webkit base.

You can think of webkit being a "3rd" browser, one without the Safari additions and also without the Chrome additions. On a Mac it will however look like Safari... Not sure about Windows.

Some people choose to use webkit as a browser over the other two as fixes and enhancements are added on a more frequent cycle (daily). I also did for a while, however much of what attracts us to a browser is included in the Apple or Google specific flavoring.

Correct. However Google actually forked Webkit into their own branch, Chromium, for Chrome. So it won't fix Chrome's problems, noxibox.

To be clear: Both Apple and Google fork the latest webkit to produce their browsers; if the error was a base issue then both forks would receive this fix.
