So I'm thinking of dumping my Toshiba L20-183.

Celeron M380 1.6Ghz
512MB DDR2
60GB
DVD-RW
15"

I use this to browse sites (No WLAN), do Skype Calls, Random documents, News Server/Bittorrent (meaning I unzip files alot), some Photoshop, all the basics and some games (CS1.6, War3)

Do you think there will be much of a performance gain if I get this?

It's cheaper because it has Linux, but I'll install Vista/XP to it..
And also, anyone who owns this particular notebook... Is it any good?
What drivers do I download? http://support.sahara.co.za/downloads/south africa notebook drivers/

I know Sahara isn't the most popular product but it sure is the cheapest...
Opinions? And please, based on the notebooks, I don care about flash drives etc.

Yes borak this laptop is awesome dude, i have sold 4 this month.

They are very fast for the price and will smash your toshiba laptop into the ground on performance.

They give you a driver disk, sahara is not popular because they used to suck but this laptop for the price is a deal unlike any other i have seen before.

You won't find an hp dell acer etc for that price with the kind of performance it offers, you will find crappy celeron's that are more expensive and miles slower for the same price.

Buy it!!!!!!!!!!
 
It does look decently spec'd.

Just don't expect much..
 
Expect much man, its a great cheap laptop that performs very well brawler.

It has everything that other big name brands have, cept its not costing 6.5k like the other brands.

I sold 10 Sahara laptops earlier this year which look very similar to the one posted, I noticed every week Sahara would send me that email with the same POS laptop for a bit cheaper every month, so its probably the same old thing they trying to clear stock.

But anyway, all of there laptops i've seen look even cheaper than they are. They seem to be made out of that plastic they make toys out of so they are about as durable as a choice condom, I recall the one had the pin on the AC jack fall off, 2 had dodgy dvd writers and there was another problem which I cant remember, and then of course you have Sahara themselves who are pathetic as far as warranties go, when they were replacing the AC socket they blew the motherboard some how and tried to blame it on us.

@ OP - If you are going to be moving the laptop around i'd suggest looking at another brand - Lenovo maybe? They have some decent cheapies.

edit: forgot to mention finding drivers is a nightmare, will have to use pcidatabase.

Brawler this is the same laptop they have had for about 6 months, same special.

I dunno brawler i have sold around 15 of them this year not one come back, i just keep the driver disk which works for all of them and stops me having to find them :), besides i bought driver detective which means finding drivers is simple.

Thing is brawler, some people say toshiba are good laptops, i have never had anything but problems with them, everyone will have a story about every brand :)

I still deal with those ten laptops half of the people who bought them have sold them and got HP's just because of the amount of trouble they were giving i agree fully on this one sahara is full of S**t we had the worst experience with them and after that i wont go back ! It might be case of cutting my nose to spite my face but then again i dont really need my nose !

Probably because its using the older gen processors.
 
I agree that it is a good price but have to warn you. A number of years ago I had a Compaq Armada and it lasted me a good few years nothing ever went wrong other than a couple of scratches. Middle last year I bought a Sahara laptop and a couple of months ago I replaced it with a new Toshiba. The hardware for the Sahara is fine and work as expected however I did find it to be a fairly cheap design and not very robust casing and after about 7 months the hinge for the screen broke. After that the LEDs (power, cpu and bettery) suddenly died on me. I also found that after just a couple of months of use the screen was not as bright as when it was new. In the end I had to turn it to full brightness to watch a movie. So in short if you are purely looking at the price it is fine. But if you have the cash to spend a bit more I would really recommend that you rather buy another brand of laptop.

And just to point out this laptop was not "abused" any more than my old compaq.
