Hi Guys,

Does anyone here use SAINET for DSL access? I am interested in getting the split billing ADSL account from them but the account is useless to me if it doesnt allow access to news servers.

I got a response back from SAIX saying "Limited SAIX newsgroups available". Im not sure what that means.

Basically is anyone having issues on saix news servers using their accounts?

Thanks

Okay, I got some feedback from the nice folks at SAINET.

Turns out "Limited SAIX newsgroups available" means "It means Telkom SAIX allows us a limited number of connections to their news servers."

Geeez, so chances are I might not even be able to connect top saix.news.net if 100 other SAINET users are already connected.

I'm interested as well and have the same question. If you do get the SAINET account will you please post the results of your downloads from the SAIX news server.

I believe the 'limited amount of connections' is per user and not per ISP. This would then be the same as everyone else; we get up to 2 concurrent connections each. On IS you get up to 5 concurrent connections per user.

But why would their sales look at this as a n issue they are trying to resolve?

To me it sounds like number of users that can access saix.news.net through a SAINET account.

I believe when SAIX says you have access to limited news groups, its their textnews server, which isn't always online either and doesn't have any binary files on, meaning no downloading you can just view the normal text messages which people used to use, back in the days.

telnet textnews.saix.net 119

I doubt SAINET users will be able to use the normal binary news server news.saix.net at all, since they make use of their own IP space.

Correct me if I am wrong :P

Okay im correcting you, its for the full news.saix.net servers

I have confirmed with them. But they say they are working to have teh issue resolved within a week :-)
