Hi all,

I had an interesting chat with a lady in the "capping" section of Telkom DSL.

She mentioned to me that the size of accounts i.e. 3 gig was governed by SAIX ???

Probably why iBurst also introduced a 3 gig cap ???

Hence you could easily buy 3gig accounts when capped.

If so , surely we need to apply pressure on SAIX to introduce bigger ,better options?

She did also mention that a "Topping Up" feature is being looked into for those who get capped. No need to buy new user account.

p.s. Big T does also know that users are sharing accounts and that their days are numbered....[V]

p.p.s. Can't follow thread as I am capped. (Office dial up atm)

The governing of 3GB accounts is only for those individuals who use the SAIX network (ie. SAIX is the actual provider and the ISP becomes the reseller of the accounts). In the past, ISP's have had total control over their accounting and the packages provided (with dialup), however, when Telkom introduced ADSL, only SAIX was made capable of providing ADSL accounts, all other ISP's have to purchase those accounts from SAIX and then resell them to the consumer. Therefore even if an ISP would like to change the ADSL package options, they cannot do so as SAIX is the one who actually manages and owns the accounts. Even DataPro uses SAIX, and make use of various other technologies to provide uncapped services - SAIX only provides them with 3GB accounts.

However, WBS's iBurst product is a totally different technology from ADSL, and is not governed by SAIX but instead WBS and whatever ISP's they purchase bandwidth from. You can rest assured that WBS's choice of 3GB is their choice and theirs alone.

They might get from SAIX, they might get from IS, they may even have their own. I don't know though :)

Err, hi there just a clue

SAIX == Telkom

SAIX is Telkoms data network devision. Hence all their operations generaly run on Telkom-IPNet domain
