Pinging www.saix.net [196.25.1.200] with 32 bytes of data:

In CPT on DLS384 using Web Africa (SAIX) prepaid.

Anyone else experiencing this? :(

Mine was doing that earlier. Made playing on the SGS servers impossible. Try pinging another local site, such as http://www.is.co.za. I think it was only SAIX itself for me.

Now my two SAIX accounts (Sainet and Webafrica prepaid) aren't connecting at all. Not sure if it's related, though.

Thanks for your reply. :)

I've emailed Web Africa. Still waiting to hear from them.

I get < 10ms at work. Using 4Mbps DSL on Web Africa (SAIX).

Ya, looks like its specific to some locations in CT? There's nada on the saix noticeboard about it, and still seems to be slow for me:

Nope, I'm getting >200ms on WA384 Saix. (Pretoria)

My ping to mybroadband is fine though:
Mybroadband <50ms
IOL <50ms

Telkom.co.za times out for pings, but the webpage is still OK.

Same results on International and Local (Prepaid)

I'm in Bloemfontein and with my Cybersmart SAIX account I get this:

Shocking isnt it ?

Any ideas as to what could be the cause of higher latencies ?

BTW, this is a normal shaped account...

if i ping saix.net i get 200ms.

HOWEVER , if i load up BF2 and have a game, my ping is 29ms.

So you might want to try just playing

When I play BF2 i ping between 50 - 60ms. I'm on a 384k line, but 5 of my friends (all 5 also on Cybersmart) , also on 384, ping between 25-40ms. Now how is that possible ? Upgraded exchanges ? Overloaded dslam on my exchange ? They have a better connection routing ?

I wish someone from telscum could answer me these question so that I can have peace with it.

:(

Are your friends also in Bloemfontein? They could just be closer to the server, if not.

general koffi, yeah all of them are also in Bloemfontein, but all of them have the same exchange, its just me that is located on a different exchange. And I think that exchange has either been upgraded or they get routed straight to the server whereas I are routed via "moerlandspan" to the SGS servers

Earlier in the year I had low pings of 33 - 45ms but for the past 4/5 months, its been higher ever since...

Latency to SAIX seems high again.

erm - don't use saix.net as a ping/latency benchmark - the network operations center runs from that ip , and they have 300-400 odd people in there....

rather use 41.242.128.1 or 41.241.128.1 for testing purposes.
