I'm looking at getting into NZBs, but before I look at going premium I want to try some free local ones first. I've got an Openweb account on the Telkom backbone, so I should be able to access SAIX, but is it any good?

If not, any other free alternatives you'd recommend?

I have not used it in years, but word on the street is that it is reasonably good for stuff that is cached (i.e. currently very popular).
I use the word "reasonably" in a very guarded way.
There are not other free alternatives on the SAIX network.... that I know of.

Shoot me a PM and I'll let you login to my premium UK account to give it a try, to compare against SAIX's news server.

Take a look at gibinews.eu ... I've got one of their free accounts and it's pretty fast. Grabbed a 1400 day old file that doesn't fetch [obviously] on Mweb or IS.
