SAIX Problems - ADSL users please read!

Pretoria
SAIX

Last two weeks lotsa ping spikes...to the point of no activity...then brilliant again.

Cape Town. No problems at the moment using Axxess.

Downloading Serious Sam II Demo at 103K/sec.

Port Elizabeth

SAIX

International connections unpredictable, generally slow. I'm usually connected anywhere from 4 to 12 hours a day to a MUD (ancient.anguish.org), port 2222. The last 2 to 3 weeks I've been dropped countless times and the lag is awful.

Area: Cape Town
ISP: Telkom, WebAfrica, Mnet (tried all 3)
Problems: International connections slow then fast. Intermitent time outs. been happening for 2 weeks now. HTTP fine but everything else is up the pole.

Ok some of the issues reported here could be minimised or eliminated by using FreeProxy.

For those not so clued up, check out the forum threads in my signature. It wouldnt hurt to try and solve some problems with trying FreeProxy.

More people should post their results here hopefully soon, so we can get a broader image of whats going on.

Area: Pietermaritzburg
ISP: WebAfrica
Problems: Getting download rates of 900K on a 512K line.

Area: Cape Town

Problem: International speeds don't deserve to be called 'speeds'

Also, I don't know what you guys think... but I really don't see the point of people posting "No problems here!" (or any variation thereof) as it doesn't really serve much purpose besides for creating more posts to sift through in order to actually find the useful information.

Come on, give the angry consumers a place to vent in peace! :D

Hey

Could everyone reading this please post the following:

AREA: ie. johburg or add more specific information if possible
ISP: SAIX or IS
PROBLEMS: Whatever problems your experiencing.

Since SAIX is to useless I figured ask the forum and try and formulate an idea of who the hell is affected by major slowdowns, disconnections or simply no connectivity.

Thinking about this a bit further I think that maybe you need to include the following.

AREA: ie. johburg or add more specific information if possible
DIAL CODE: Your area code and first 3 digits of you phone number ie. 041-363
ISP: SAIX or IS
PROBLEMS: Whatever problems your experiencing.
WAS IT REPORTED BEFORE: Yes/No
IF YES WHAT IS YOUR REFERENCE NO:
YOUR COMMENTS: This can give some indication of your level of frustration on the problem.

You might find that they will want the DSLAM Slot and Port No, but I don’t think most people will have this. The Area code and first 3 digits of your phone number should give them an indication of what DSLAM you are working off.

You might just be surprised what impact this information might have. Remember you don’t know who is reading this and what they might do with this information. :p

Cape Town

Last couple of days ping timeouts between office ADSL and hosting site at UUNET. This is pissing me off.

I think your all getting to technical here, the idea is to get only simple data from users. We dont want anyone to get scared away when reading a science exam :)

The point is that we can narrow down the areas that are having problems.
