Hey guys,
First post, but as it stands I have nowhere else to turn.
Let me explain this issue:
I own 2 accounts, - Standard TelkomInternet 3gig shaped account.
- WebAfrica 1g Unshaped 'multi-realm' account.
My router is the standard old telkom router that I recieved as part of the bundle with the 3g account a little over 2.5 years ago. Says "ADSL Router POTS" on the top, the software says model number MPC850
The problem:
The telkom account has always worked without too much hassle, recently I bought this WebAfrica account, I share it with a friend to play WoW with. The thing about this account is that it allows you to choose whether to connect to either the SAIX or VERIZON backbones when u connect by simply appending '.s' or '.v' to the account name when connecting.
Now, I can use the VERIZON backbone on this account with no problem either, the problem comes in when I choose to connect to the SAIX backbone (which is also the default setting, during the day, and the latency is much better). The connection is completed (I use bridging on my router), but the connection is dead. Once connected, I cannot browse, everything times out. Running a tracert to any site simply shows the first hop (to 165.146.24.1 in my case) as completing fine, but then every packet afterwards doesn't return.
Now the wierd part of all this:
There is nothing wrong with the account, The guy I share it with has no problems at his house connecting to the SAIX backbone whatsoever. Additionally, I have used the account at my girlfriend's house up the road, she has the same router as I do, and she can use the account fine (first hop is also 165.146.24.1).
To rule out that it was my router causing problems, I took my router there and plugged it in, again, works fine.
So, the problem is not the account, or my router, I can only imagine that it is my line or port. Telkom just tell me that the line syncs fine and they can't log a fault. They also (granted its acceptable) cannot understand why 1 account works and the other doesn't and that the line could be responsible.
Extra note: I had another friend over a while back who experienced the same issue on another webafrica unshaped account at my house.
I am not clueless when it comes to most of the technical dsl stuff, but I am sure its possible I may have msised something or not tried something. At the moment I am completely clueless as to what to try next. The problem has lasted about 2 weeks now, and I really like this account aside from this issue. If anybody has anything at all that I could try, any test or technique that could at least give me an idea where the problem is, I would be very grateful.
WebAfrica arent sure what to do and can't log a fault/query with SAIX without a fault reference from Telkom (which they won't give me).
Please, if any of you have had a problem like this please share how you attacked it and if you managed to resolve it.
