SAIX: Unshaped latency higher than normal?

Hi all

I have prepaid, unshaped SAIX bandwidth from Web Africa.

I see tonight, pinging a European server I usually play on, the latency is a lot higher than normal. Is anyone else experiencing this?

It's normally around 200ms.
 
Well I am glad it is not only me.

It's sad to think we're making a fuss over +-100ms but yes, it does cost a lot and it makes a big difference to the performance of your connection.
 
200ms? omg that would b so nice.
I sit with a normal ping of 1300ms to europe :(

Well you're on IS right?

SAIX unshaped costs a "cool" R125 per GB, so I'd hope I get decent international latency. On my shaped account, I get about 440ms. So last night, there was not much difference between the two.

Pity that there is still a big difference in the cost in situations like these...
 
I have a 2GB unshaped account with Axxess. While playing WOW this usually amounts to a latency of 200ms but over the last couple of weeks I am getting anything from 600ms plus on my unshaped account (this is what I used to get on my shaped account). Why am I am paying so much more for my unshaped account if it is no better than my shaped account?

Does however sound like to me that it isnt our service providers to blame as we all are having problems on different ISP's. Blame Telkom instead
 
WA have told me it's due to the issues SAIX have been having since the 20th, so there's not much they can do.

Funnily enough, my shaped latency isn't "that" bad. It's around 440ms. This is using a shaped, SAIX Web Africa account.

It's the unshaped latency that is the issue for me. It's only around 100ms less than my shaped account. For almost double the price of shaped bandwidth, it really is pathetic.

+- 100ms is HUGE.

Friends I play with on european servers (they are from europe) have an average latency on the servers of 16-18ms, whn they hit 30ms, they refuse to play saying the latency is too high, and usually they have this sorted out by thier ISP in minutes.

It's sad to think that we are happy with a *good* latency of about 200ms-300ms
 
Yeah, I agree. Any increase in latency is very noticeable.

I was just saying that because "the powers that be" seem to not take performance issues like that seriously. i.e. there's no guarantee of service whatsoever.
