I stumbled into this and thought it might be of interest - apologies if it has been posted before:

I foresee a universal information system (UIS), which will give everyone access at any given moment to the contents of any book that has ever been published or any magazine or any fact. The UIS will have individual miniature-computer terminals, central control points for the flood of information, and communication channels incorporating thousands of artificial communications from satellites, cables, and laser lines. Even the partial realization of the UIS will profoundly affect every person, his leisure activities, and his intellectual and artistic development. Unlike television...the UIS will give each person maximum freedom of choice and will require individual activity. But the true historic role of the UIS will be to break down the barriers to the exchange of information among countries and people.” (Saturday Review/ World, 24 August 1974.)

Tesla did it earlier[/URL] :p

I assume you are referring to the "Infernal Gas Machine", which name would suit Twitter and other social networks, would you not agree?

Tesla was amazing. I seem to recall some recent articles about power-at-a-distance, and I remember thinking - guys, go look at Tesla, what he did.

But why not start your own thread about him, instead of derailing this one, about another amazing person videlicet: Sakharov? No need for a pissing contest. Besides, no doubt Jesus knew all about it in 34 AD. :p

Oh, didn't know this was a Sakharov-specific thread. Thought it was about guys who foresaw the Internet. Verne did too, didn't he?
Anyhoo, Tesla is soooo much cooler than anyone you could bring to the table. :p

Seeing as I just can't compete on the Geriatrix Coolness Scale, I think I'll just crawl back into my hole and sulk. ;)

GCSE's will never be the same again...

Warning: post held together by the weak pun force.

I was trying to place Heisenberg on the GCSE but was uncertain.

Then I tried to place Einstein, but found it all relative.

:p
