Hi guys,

I saw someone else posted some info regarding salaries and asking for certain help and he got decent answers out of it, so I am trying my luck as well.

I recently got a job offer in CT, so I will be moving there in January.

I was looking at a 3-4 bedroom house/apartment in the Blouberg area...and is not sure what rent is in that area.

My gross is R65900.00 so guess I will clear +-R47000.00 (Never worked in SA before, always worked abroad without paying tax)

I am already paying for another house, car etc...so the R47k is not what I am taking home at all...so just want to work out and be prepared what to pay in CT.

Where I come from R5000 can get you a 3 bedroom aprtment, but I guess that will not be the case in CT....

Also, is the pay in line of what managers get in CT for big industrial companies? On top of that there is a 6.5% pension of the base salary and discovery health for my family.

OP any reason why Blouberg? Cape Town is bigger than just the CBD and Blouberg. For R5K you will get a 3 bedroom place thats about 20-30km from the CBD.

I don't know Blouberg but if I use Somerset West as an example, your looking at R10-R15K per month for a 4 bedroomed place.

As for your salary, its hard to comment as it all depends on what it is your actually doing. Last time I was a manager I got paid R4K.

The company office is in Canal Walk, and my wife got some friends in that area. So just thought it will be sort of close to drive and then she will fit in easier...
Any places you can recommend knowing it is in Canal Walk?

The salary is reasonable for upper-level management, for CT it's ok. You'll do better in JHB (closer to 80k gross, I guess). Forget about a 3/4 bedroom place in CT for that money. You're looking at 10-15k for something DECENT, or closer to 20-25k if you want something NICE.

Just to give you an idea what's happening around West Beach and Blouberg:

Find a place in Milnerton...you are looking at about 8-10k. Traffic is fekked out of table view in the mornings and just as bad coming home. Takes us an hour to drop the kid at school and drive the 12 odd km to work in the mornings. I'm in Flamingo Vlei, I would imagine from west beach/ Blouberg even worse!!

I also thought about the traffic and was not sure. I always took Milnerton to be a more Industrial area, but I am not from there, so that's just me not knowing the area...
Thanks for the tips and help.

Lots of apartments in Centuary City/Canal Walk. No commute ...

Nope, it's not industrial at all. Check gumtree for Milnerton Ridge, Milnerton Proper, as mentioned, Century City itself has loads of upper class apartments or Sunset Beach which is a big buck area( mansions) but you could get lucky. It's a 5 minute drive to Blouberg from these areas so your wife will still easily get to see her friends etc.
Good luck with the move. :)
