Anybody with a great salsa recipe? Preferably something like Spur serve with their quesadillas.

I love and regularly make my own quesadillas and serve it with a fresh raw salsa, guacamole and sour cream. But about a week ago I had the Spur version and really liked their version of salsa. I now want to try and make my own better home-made version.

I think it is the consistency I liked more because it was easier to eat with the quesadillas when you spread it on the tortilla or just scoop it up.

This is what Spur Salsa looks like. (Salsa is in the little bowl)

And this is what I always make.

Okay. Had no reply so I simply made my normal raw salsa and then blitzed it in the food processor until it was the consistency I thought would be okay.

It turned out quite alright but not as good as the Spur version. I think my hand might have been a bit too heavy with the coriander so it had a slight bitter aftertaste. Still nice.

Hope someone can give me some pointers and I will try it again.

Here was my attempt.

pm me. we can talk. I make for sale a range of things you want.

What you made is a picco de gallo. How I make salsa is with leftover picco de gallo. I cook it up for about 30 minutes after it has sat for 2 to 3 days then use a stick blender. I've never tasted Spur's salsa so can't comment on it.

Oh, and be gentle with the coriander. It can overpower everything. My picco de gallo recipe is on the site. You can find it with a quick search...

Ah yes. I remember you correcting me with the correct term previously. I can't remember or pronounce it so I just stick to raw salsa :p

Do you add anything when you cook it up? It will reduce quite a bit with 30min of cooking.

Thanks for the offer but that kind of defeats the purpose of this thread, doesn't it?

I like to try new things and prefer to stick to home-made... Not always cheaper but certainly fresher and allows for tweaks.

I add salt and sugar if necessary. Yes, it will reduce. Turns into a nice, thick consistency...

Koo, Miami, and Rhodes all sell a tin of Mexican styled diced tomato's that are essentially Salsa. I use them a lot as the Old el Paso stuff is just way to expensive. Of the 3 Koo is by far the best. Rhodes tends to be more watery and is also far hotter (burn, no flavour). The Miami one I have only tried once as it hit the shelves recently and its OK as well.

Does anyone remember the Cross and Blackwell salsa from the 90's? I fell in love with the stuff despite it being a slightly sweater salsa and then they discontinued it.

I prefer my salsa to not sweat, but to each their own, I guess...

Hi guys, does any one knows where can i find in JHB an Old el paso salsa in the big jars. Used to be available before. Now all that i can find are the small ones. Would be great if someone can assist. Buying the WW one lately.
