A friend of mine's shop was broken into. He was about to throw this thing away so I asked him to give it to me.

I need to know why it has a Sata data cable but no power. Also I take it the camera interfaces are BNC?

Some pics for reference.

You'll notice they tried to destroy the unit, but failed miserably because I plugged it in and it still gets power.

That's a sata power cable by the looks of it, what's next to the ribbon cable? looks like there was a sata data port there...

I tried now (damn i'm getting old, took 5 minutes just to figure out what that read.

Its saying either JI6 or J16

This is what I'm getting at, check out SATA3_2, seems like there was a sata port :P

Yep that is a sata power.

Looks like the sata port was ripped off.

Yes it uses bnc interface.

I don't think that SATA3_2 or SATA3_1 ever had SATA sockets as it seems from the photo that the holes in the board are closed woth solder. If those ports were ripped out you would have some damage around the holes or remainder of the pins sticking out.

My guess is that they pulled the drives out that were attached to the lighter blue SATA connectors.

That just an example to show what a "unused" sata port looks like, ie the solder points.
