Hi. I had Megawan a few years back, and have my old equipment. This consists of a 24db external antenna, as well as the PCMCIA Orinoco Silver radio card. I *think* Megawan ran on 2.4ghx frequency, but is similar to iBurst (I could be wrong).

My question is : Would I be able to use my Megawan equipment?

Something else I wanted to post (for those that knew Megawan) is why did it close down? Was it illegal? Why isn't iBurst? Also, I've been burned with wireless internet before (I signed up in the trial period as well) and erratic performance/non-performance/liquidation. Does iBurst seem more professional?

Hi Dolby,

You should be able to use the MegaWAN stuff on the WiFi networks operating in the area:

and

http://www.jawug.za.net

No internet access though.

iBurst operated on a completely different frequency using propietary equipment. They are ICASA licensed and *hopefully* will survive - at least beyond the trial period!

If you want to get rid of the antenna, I might be interested.

Definately not but I'm not going to explain why.

Use your Megawan kit to join / create a local WIFI net.

Megawan was illegal.
iBurst is legal.
I'm not going to comment on iBurst's performance. RTFF

yeah its good but if you don't want slight down time from time to time get it after the launch, because they always seem to be playing with stuff at the moment,

no, the thinga ma bob doesn't understand the thinga majig and thus you need a watsamacallit from iburst to connect to the thingy at the place
