Hi

After the Telkom free upgrades I went from 2mb to 4mb.
I downloaded for a few days at 350kb/s to 380kb/s on torrents.

Then since Thursday or Friday my speed went down to 190 - 210kb/s.

After speaking to Openweb (gold account) they said my ISP account speed needs to be upgraded to the 4mb to do so. After that I got 350 kb/s for a day. Now since yesterday my speeds are between 120 - 170 kb/s.

And a Speedtest.net result shows 210kb/s on the Openweb and my backup afrihost capped account with nothing running in the backround. Already did a port reset. What steps can I follow from here?

Here is the details from my router:

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 231 140
Attenuation (dB): 35 25
Output Power (dBm): -1 19
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10368 1148
Rate (Kbps): 4096 512
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.13 0.25

Thanks

Hi, I had the same bad experience after upgrade from 2Mb to 4Mb, never got it working even after changing my ISP account to a 4Mb (also with Openweb). A Telkom tech came out today eventually and it looks like they downgraded me to 2Mb again. At least the line is stable now. According to the tech the line I'm on can't handle the 4Mb until they upgrade the fibrelink which goes to the exchange I'm on, hopefully by Feb.

Hope you have a better experience than me.I'm in the Lansdowne area in Cape Town. My speedtests after the tech was here with different accounts;

2Mb account:

Results:
Download Speed: 1951 kbps (243.9 KB/sec transfer

rate)
Upload Speed: 483 kbps (60.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 12 ms
Jitter: 1 ms

4Mb account:

Results:
Download Speed: 1933 kbps (241.6 KB/sec transfer

rate)
Upload Speed: 482 kbps (60.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 12 ms
Jitter: 1 ms

@skusku

This is the reply which I got from another ISP not OpenWeb.
Kindly note that the uncapped network is experiencing some latency issue's, due to the
capacity available on the network at the moment due to the IPC allocation.

Hi All

Command tracert dos not reveal all problems, congested or ISP?
I tried with two different ISP accounts, both ISP are effected at the same time when tracert reveals lattency problems.
Other times it is ok.
In my area the exchange is small.

Hi All

When Telkom is doing the speed upgrades the required bandwith is also going up.
Did Telkom do its homework and expanded theirs or the ISP have fallen behind?
