News24 belongs to Naspers, so I would guess that you would find a preponderance of morons working there.

I've grown really tired of this problem. It has been a recurring issue for years now and transcends the media types.

Avoiding certain publishers has helped, but has not entirely eliminated the problem.

I am a vehement supporter of press freedom, but (and it pains me massively) I am actually starting to support the notion of a media regulation authority, if only to rid us of this drivvel.

The media in ZA, as with most things, has fallen to dire levels. Our TV reporters are a joke, the researchers resort to sensationalism no matter what and the writers fabricate on a level Hans Christian Anderson could only dream of.

Rotten media are potentially a scarier thought than a rotten government.

As a freelance writer myself, I find it appalling.

That one seems to have more detail and some eye witness reports. To me it seems like the more complete version. I could be wrong however.

I have seen plenty of news24 reports that have been borderline lies, they often take unconfirmed thrid party accounts and present them as news.

How is that different from any other report? Eyewitness accounts can and do differ.

@merlin: Rather rejoice in the freedom of people to report as they see it rather than have some government agency filter it all for you.

Regarding the veracity of eyewitness accounts ...

Look at this picture of Albert:

Now step back a few metres from your screen and look again. Voila! Marilyn!

I also read somewhere that the driver was being assaulted when he drove off

Now i heard the driver is actually suing them for assault???

So, what really happened??? Would be nice to know the news you read is accurate now and again.

"eye witness" reports I can tolerate discrepancies with. It's Joe Public and his 15 minutes.

'The Media' manipulating reports for gawker value I can't, won't and shouldn't be expected to.
