Sample signature

So wanted to start another unit trust and found an independent broker.

He is registered on FSB.co.za yet he wants:

A photocopy of your ID, with one specimen signature
Proof of residence
Proof of bank account
Also, please sign and send me the Letter of Introduction when you’ve read it.

While I understand proof of residence and bank details, but why the sample signature?

Seems a bit off to me...

Am I just being paranoid? Surely being registered on fsb.co.za means everything above board right?

Specimen signature to compare with, when you want to sell the unit trust and give them instructions in writing to do so. At least that's how it worked years ago.
