So i have this monitor connected to my ps3 via dvi 2 hdmi at 720p. when playing ps3 games it runs perfectly. however when i try to watch a dvd or any other non hd media the monitor gives an error message that says that the display settings is not at the optimal setting. i press menu and it goes away. however after about a minute or so the screen goes black and im left listening to audio. does anyone have the same problem??? and does anyone have any possible solutions??? your help will be greatly appreciated.

I was actually just googling this atm :D

I also have a 2253GW and I can't even get a PS3 to display anything on it. It does exactly what yours does when you try to play a dvd. Am still looking for a solution or a reason :( I've tried emailing Samsung and they've done bugger all and haven't replied.

Tried it on my friends PS3 but was using an HDMI to DVI cable and then just my Samsung 2253GW, about 3 months old (got just before rAge). We tried doing the whole reset the settings (holding down power button or whatever). We know the cable works as well cause it works with his Samsung 226BW. We also tried turning that HDCP hotplug option on that is in the service menu...

strange though. i have mine connected to ps3 the same way but at least it works. so did you get no picture at all??? cause mine only blacks out after a minute.

Turn playstation on and it says "Not optimal resolution" or whatever then it just stays black. I posted it here a while back but also got no reply...

My 2333 gives me this error when I launch WarCraft 3, still works though. I assume it is because war3 does not support a 1920x1028 Res?

@grimspoon. the error is not the problem. its the black screen that is. can you watch dvd's???

Are you sure that when you are playing DVD's it isn't upscaling to 1080i?
Reason being as far as I know, the screen won't display at 1080i, it can only force 1080p. Just make sure the option is not ticked in display settings. ;)

Also check BD/DVD settings on the PS3 to check that it's not upscaling it to a resolution your screen doesn't support :)

thanks peppercorns. will check that. but if i remember correctly screen blacks out @ every resolution when playing sd content.
