Hi guys

my friend bought a led tv from game the one with 1hdmi and 1 usb

now i know that tv is useless when it comes to media

so it only plays music and pics

is there anyway around the firmware to enable it to play movie files

Thanks for the help

If the firmware route doesn't pan out an external media player (Media8er, PlayOn etc) will provide a solution.

the external media player would be fine but i know of some media update

just not sure if it will work

there is something in the settings of changing the video from write to read or something like that

read it a while back but need to know if it messes up guarantee as well and if anyone has done it

thanks tho

samr1wp, are you talking about the 40" LED that came with an HD PVR and sold for R4999 on special this past weekend?

No. Your friend has the diluted 5 Series LED backlit LCD UA40D5003 with 1 x HDMI and no USB HD media player.

My cousin bought one and is finding the same lack of media player. What's Game's return policy like, in the situation where the box has been opened and TV setup? He bought it last Thursday, so six days ago.

These are functions that should have been researched and tested prior to purchasing the tvs. Those were old model Samsung LED TVs on special for R4999 with a free HD decoder. The latest model Samsung Series 5 40" LED is currently R7999 IIRC.

Agreed. Haste makes waste :p I guess not a train smash. This Sumvision Cyclone Micro 2+ Media Player for R449 seems like a decent and cheap media player for those that need one. Two friends have them, I've heard no complaints but will ask them again.

Yes it is last year's D range. There will probably be diluted E range 5 Series as well. The UA40D5000 which is the non diluted version is around R5,999.

Game won't have any problem taking it back and giving a refund or exhange for something else. And with the Consumer Protection Act they have no choice.

+1

An HDMI switch/port extender + HD media player costs more than the upgrade to UA40D5000 with 4 x HDMI and USB HD media player.

Pity how they hoodwink people like this. They also say "Was R5,999" - yet it was actually the UA40D5000 at that price, not the UA40D5003!

Thx guys, I'll tell my cuz to get a refund. Also, in the ad, it had the incomplete model number so you can't look it up without going to the store first or calling them, assuming you even know the model num is incomplete in the first place!

yep the same one

that was quite cheap considering the pvr is like 1200

but yeah they didnt ask they just bought and i know the 40" lcd and "led" with one usb and one hdmi cannot play media

we have the 40" older 5 series with 3 hdmi and 1 usb and does not play media and if i knew back then i would have never bought it but yeah

was looking for a way around to get it to play media
