Any thoughts on the SAMSUNG SA TV 50” PLASMA PS50C430 tv? Will be used by my parents for HD DSTV and the odd DVD.

Yay or Nay and why? Is there something else I should be looking at for them in the same price range (+- R11k) and same size?

Thanks,

HD Ready, does that not mean 720 res?
Is that not a little small for such a big sized screen?

Depends on their viewing distance...

If they sit closer than 2.5m from the screen, then Full HD would be better (but it would only really help for 1080p Blu-ray, not for 720p DSTV).
The optimal viewing distance for HD Ready (720p) is 3.3m. So if they sit 3.3m or furthur from the screen, then 720p is good enough.
If they sit closer that 3.3m, I'd actually recommend a 720p 42" plasma rather.

In fact for SD viewing, a 42" should also be considered, depending on the viewing distance :) Sitting too close to a 50" and watching SD can look bad.

Hi Guys,
Anyone know if there any major differences between the PS50B430 and PS50C430 in terms of pic quality etc
Does the B430 have a digital tv tuner?
Thanks

Not sure if the B430 has digital, but as i have mentioned on other threads, just beware the"C" versions coming out. Afaik, Samsung SA has not started manufacturing the C series for SA yet. These are imports. Plasma is a climate specific tech, and you may end up with a buzzer. The B series was very succesful, and it had minimal problems. Just check with Samsung, or the store. I have a B series, and i am stoked. I also believe there is a change in the screen, whereby they have added black vertical lines to enhance the black levels and depth. Some people say they can see them, just for info.

Edit: Can you get the 50B450 for the same price? Better option.

MM well technically DSTV HD is 720p that the TV does so that will be fine BUT it won't do Blue Ray well or proper HD ... so depends on your needs !

It will do it well, unless you sit very close... and it is proper HD... 720p.
