Anyone know who has the best price for the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD?

So far it looks like Orange at R2505...

Sorry for boming in ...the crucial and trancend seems to be at the same price point? Which would be bette..

Cause takealot has both 128/256 models but which one is better
 
I'm so glad the 256GB SSDs are coming down in price. Did not want to buy a 128GB ssd at the going prices.

Not sure which ones specifically you are talking about, but in general with SSDs the 256 version version performs better than 128 as there are more chips that run in parallel.

As for brand, Crucial has a better history with SSDs than transcend.
 
Look at the read write speeds cheaper SSD's are considerably slower than their slightly more expensive counter parts

At double the price how does it make your life better? Read speeds are similar when you compare the Crucial to the 840 Pro, and the 512 Crucial even has similar write speeds.

The 840 Pro is good yes, but I wouldn't spend double the price for it. Maybe 10-20% more and it might be worth it.

It's not just about read and write speed either. More expensive SSD's, like the Samsung 850 Pro line, are significantly more durable than the 840 line. But for most people it's not worth the money.

Yeah, by the time you get to the end of the SSD's life it's already time to get a new one.

Yeah. SSD capacities are so low that you wouldn't want to keep one for more than two or three years anyway. My 128GB is only big enough for Windows and my non-gaming apps. It's nice for booting up quickly, but otherwise my PC functions as it always has. Can't wait for affordable 1TB SSD's.
 
My current set up is a corsair CSSD-F240GBLS 240GB

Running my OS and Adobe software and sublime text.

Then I have other drives for general programs files etc.
 
I believe the Crucial MX100 is just under the Samsung 840 Pro - performance wise...

So far, Orange has the best price for the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB. To be honest I'll probably end up going with the Crucial one...

On Wootware, are they trust worthy? Weren't that recently involved with PS4 pre-order issues. Hope I have the right company!

Wootware are legit. I bought my HD7970 from them and had no trouble. They have a good reputation anyway.
 
I see that Wootware has a sale on the Crucial so it's a no brainer.

I've used wootware a few times. Mostly big things like motherboards and graphics cards. They always came through. Have a friend that bought a full PC from them too.
 
in my eyes..OCZ is fastest..it read uncompressed same speed as compressed...
 
I had 2 OCZ SSD drives fail, and many other owners have had problems.
Crucial is the only reliable option you want to go with.

So after all of that I went with Takealot...price difference was minimal and they had stock here in Jhb.

Sorry, the store that had the dodgy reputation was Pheonixtech...
